Paula Knauss, the mother of Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss, raged at US President Joe Biden, saying he “trusted their enemy”. It came after President Biden gave a speech to the nation on Tuesday commemorating the withdrawal from Afghanistan, which he called an “extraordinary success”.
Speaking to Fox News, the mother said: “Who did you trust?
“You trusted our enemy to allow who would come through.
“What? Does anyone in this great nation, think- when they think, what would happen
“No one has to have a military background to know that that was not going to go down well.”
She went on: “It should never have happened the way it did.
“Who will be accountable? Who will say that ‘I am the one responsible?’”
“Like owning up to it if you screw something up, you got to own up to it.
“Today, the President said that ‘there was unanimity, and decision making and that complexities and difficulties were bound to happen’.
“I’m paraphrasing, ‘in any withdrawals so this couldn’t have been avoided’
“Does that give you solace?”

Ms Knauss answered: “Anyone who knew, and was watching. “Any person in this nation who was watching what was happening in front of our eyes, that our men and women were not in pursuit of the enemy as we had been in for almost 20 year.
“We were running, and we’re trying to get out of there as fast as possible.
“The hasty exit was not necessary but finished what we had started 20 years ago.”
