Mike Sorrentino made sure to do a few things before going to prison including getting married to Lauren. Now Jersey Shore: Family Vacation showed that he went on a trip with his fellow cast members. Why did he want to go on the road during his last days of freedom? Here is what he said and more.

Mike Sorrentino was sentenced to 8 months in prison for tax evasion

The reality star and his brother, Marc got into legal trouble. Sorrentino pled guilty to one count of tax evasion, and Marc pled guilty to aiding the preparation of false and fraudulent tax evasion. Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Things will also be different for him once he’s released. He reportedly won’t be able to open new bank accounts or new lines of credit, according to The Blast. He will also have to serve 500 hours of community service.

He is expected to be released in September

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation might have just returned covering Sorrentino’s time before prison, but he’s almost done with his sentence. The reality star has been incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution. He is expected to be released on Sept. 12.

Some of his co-stars have been keeping fans updated on how he’s doing in prison. Pauly “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio told Andy Cohen, “He’s doing really well,” and “is happy, positive. He’s just so happy to get it over with and he just wants to get out… he’s almost done.”

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi also gave a playful update on his time in prison. She told E! News that he’s “having the time of his life.”

“It’s like his in a senior home, he’s playing Bingo, he’s helping people recover in jail,” she claimed. “We all talk to him through an email, so I talk to him like once a week. He’s in the gym a lot, so he’s probably gonna come out ripped. You know, he’s not gonna be BDS anymore–Big Daddy Sitch–he’s gonna have his, probably, six-pack again. But he’s doing…he’s doing good in there.”

He went on a trip because he was surprised by his sentencing

The cast went on a road trip to Stony Creek Ranch in Lake George, New York after his sentencing. Sorrentino talked about why he thought it was a good time to get away.

“After my sentencing, I’ll be honest with you guys, I did not expect this result or this outcome to be handed to me,” he said on the show, according to People. “So maybe it’s a good idea to get some time with my friends up in the country, upstate New York, one with nature. Could be a good situation.”

DelVecchio also thought it was a good idea. “I think this trip will be good for Mike, [to] get him away from paparazzi. They’re outside his house,” he said. “Get him away from cell service, get him away from everybody, clear his head.”

Fans will have to keep watching to see what life before going to prison was like for him. It seemed like he was focused on spending time with family and friends.
