What is Nick Tilsley’s brain injury in Coronation Street and how did he get it?

JUST when you thought Coronation Street's nasty Nick Tilsley couldn’t sink any lower. Well, tonight viewers will see the factory owner come up with a devious plan he’s certain will stop him from going to jail.

Upcoming scenes show the relentless schemer blaming his brain injury for his questionable decisions. But what is this mysterious condition? And how did he get it?

What is Nick Tilsley’s brain injury in Coronation Street?

Corrie fans know that naughty Nick callously stole £80k from his own gran Audrey Roberts and then used his knicker factory Underworld to hide the stolen readies from the police.

And it’s looking like he could be spending some serious time behind bars for the theft and fraud double whammy.

So he’s desperate to use any trick in the book to save himself.

Back in 2013 Nick was involved in a car accident that saw him end up in a coma for almost two months.

He almost died and had to have an emergency operation to treat a bleed on his brain.

When he eventually woke up, he suffered from memory loss and struggled to speak. He even had to relearn how to walk again.

While – over time – Nick eventually seemed to make a full recovery, the injury left him with some longer-term changes to his personality.

He even hit his girlfriend Leanne Battersby on one occasion, leaving her terrified of his unpredictable behaviour.

How did he get the injury?

Nick and his brother David Platt were at war back in August 2013 – much like the present.

This time David was fuming because Nick had slept with David’s wife Kylie.

Kylie fell pregnant and didn’t know if the baby was Nick’s or David’s.

David and Nick were travelling in a van and David removed Nick’s seatbelt before stopping the van.

The van was then hit by a lorry and Nick was left in a coma, while David escaped relatively unharmed.

When Nick came out of his coma after his emergency surgery, he was frustrated by his memory loss and had a very short temper.

While Nick was in his coma, Kylie gave birth to baby Lily.

After a paternity test, it was revealed that David was her biological father.

Everything was revealed at Lily’s christening  and the Platt family disowned David.
