What happened on Love Island tonight? Recap of episode 39 with all the gossip and highlights
07/17/2019AFTER giving Amber the cold shoulder following Joanna’s exit from the villa, Michael appeared to have had second thoughts about calling it quits with the beauty therapist once and for all on Love Island.
Meanwhile, it was another day to pick a date for India, Harley and Irish hunk Greg as they finally met their fellow Islanders – but what else occurred?
What happened in tonight’s episode?
Greg and Amber wasted no time getting to know one another, with the rugby player gushing: “I just thought you deserved a date after all the drama that’s been happening. You deserve to be spoilt a bit.”
Amber certainly couldn't keep a smile off her face in the wake of being showered with compliments from the newcomer, and it went without saying that there definitely seemed to be chemistry between the two.
Though she’s coupled up with Ovie, Amber is technically single because she doesn’t view the basketball player to be anything more than a good friend.
So, it seemed rather important to know what Greg was looking for in a girl to see whether or not Amber was the type of girl he’s interested in taking things further with.
The 24-year-old mentioned how he’s “looking for confidence. You’re obviously very confident,” which – again – left a wide smile on the bombshell's face.
Greg definitely knew all the right things to say, telling Amber that if there was anyone else he had his eyes on in the villa, she would certainly be his first choice.
The date went so well that Amber couldn’t wait to start telling her girls about the evening she had, sharing: “His accent is fabulous. And he can take the banter.”
“I’m telling you now, I haven’t liked one boy that has come in. That boy has got the luck of the Irish!”
Meanwhile, after their dates with Ovie and Chris, India and Harley arrived at the villa to meet the other Islanders – and it wasn’t long before the bombshells had to pick their next date.
After India mentioned how much of an attraction she shared to Ovie, it seemed the feelings were mutual with the athlete confessing that she was totally on his radar.
The following day, India received a text, which read: “Greg, Harley and India. Welcome to your first morning in the villa. You must now pick one person each to date this morning. Please pick the person you want to date and head out into the garden. #theearlybirdcatchestheworm”
While Greg chose Maura, Harley went with Michael and India – unsurprisingly – went with Ovie.
Maura seemed delighted to be going on a date, revealing in the Beach Hut that she hoped Curtis would get a little jealous over her quality time with the Irish newbie.
“It’s kind of good in a way because Curtis might get a bit jealous! I’m glad none of the girls are taking Curtis on a date,” the grid girl gushed.
Somewhere else, during her date with Ovie, India really wanted to make reference to how alluring she found the athlete, having complimented him by saying:: “Obviously, you’re very good looking. Body of a god! You’ve got the height and you’re funny.”
Given that India had previously gone on a date with Chris, it will be interesting to see whether she ends up sharing a closer connection with Ovie and subsequently decides to stop showing interest in the development manager.
During Greg’s time with Maura, the topic of discussion quickly turned to Curtis, and when asked whether the ballroom dancer’s head could conceivably be turned by another stunner in the estate, Maura gave a serious reaction.
“Anything could happen. I’d hope it wouldn’t but I can’t really call it.”
And while Michael initially gave the impression that he was officially over Amber, during a chat with Ovie by the pool, the hunk from Liverpool conceded that Joanna's presence in the villa had made him maintain a strategic distance from his previous Island partner.
While Ovie advised Michael not to give his pride a chance to hurt him in the long run, Belle later added she wasn't persuaded that Joanna would wait for him once he got out.
“I don’t know if she’ll wait for you. I don’t know if she’ll be interested now, because you didn’t leave with her.”
It was Michael who would admit in the end that he wasn’t quite ready to end his journey with Amber – especially not with the way things had transpired in recent days.
During a conversation with his boys at the fire pit, he revealed: “Now that Joanna has gone, it has given me time to think about things. I’m not saying I don’t like Joanna, because I do. But I feel like because Joanna was there I actively avoided Amber.”
Anton Danyluk was absent from tonight's episode after being removed from the villa over a sudden mysterious illness.
The gym owner is believed to have received professional medical treatment before having made his return – but you shouldn't worry as Anton is expected to be back on our screen on June 18.
What days in the week is Love Island on ITV2?
You can get your fix of the show every night on ITV2 at 9pm where the main programme, hilariously narrated by Iain Stirling, gives you the lowdown on all the goings-on in the villa – from couples cracking on to singletons getting mugged off.
Saturday night's show differs from the rest of the week, as it is a round-up of all the best bits from the villa that week – and maybe some unseen footage.
If that’s not enough, you can also watch Caroline Flack's spin off show Aftersun on Sunday nights at 10pm after the main show has aired, where she discusses the latest action with celebrity guests, as well as those eliminated from the villa.
