Nadia Sawalha was glad to be back as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women after an extended absence. As the presenter discussed life in lockdown and a horrific burn she suffered recently, she appeared upset as she described the prior week’s events and how she nearly lost a beloved member of her family.
The TV star returned to the ITV panel show after suffering a horrific burn from a microwave.
When asked by Charlene about her recent stay at home to recover, Nadia was quick to say: “It’s been one thing after the other.”
She branded herself an “idiot” for the disaster, explaining she left the lid off some honey in the microwave and it exploded, leaving burns all down her neck.
Though, despite the injury, it was her sick dog Chi Chi who upset the panellist the most as she revealed the family nearly lost her at one point.
She stated the last few weeks have been incredibly challenging for the family as their dog became ill, which made Nadia’s recovery more stressful.
The presenter said: “My dogs have been so ill and I moan about my dog all the time.
“My dogs, they drive me mad but, oh my god, we nearly lost her, and we have been in bits as a family,” she explained.
Her stress didn’t stop there as she revealed her daughter Maddie “has been inconsolable”.
“I was away and having to hide a lot of it from Kiki [her second daughter] because she went down so quickly with so many horrible symptoms,” Nadia remarked.
“In fact, she was at the hospital and the vet said they just had no idea what was wrong with her.”
Nadia attempted to hide her heartbreak as she explained the situation around Chi Chi further.
She continued: “They said no dog they know has ever had as many tests and seen as many specialists.
“Anyway, at one point we thought she was going to be totally blind.
“She now has a bit of vision in one eye, and she’s had loads of biopsies and stuff and we were just desperate to get her home.”
However, the rollercoaster of a week continued and the host said the vets would release Chi Chi last Monday but, the night before, their dog Toffee got a kennel cough.
“It’s so awful and you can vaccinate but it doesn’t vaccinate against all the different strains.”
Nadia explained Chi Chi was unable to come home immediately because of Toffee’s kennel cough.
“I’m having to isolate Chi Chi from Toffee,” she explained to her fellow hosts, who were shocked at her traumatic week.
“It’s like trying to isolate two toddlers because Toffee is a very minxy dog so nobody will have Toffee for me because she’s a madam,” Nadia laughed.
Sadly, no one was able to take Chi Chi either as she currently requires drops eight times a day“ in her eyes and needs a “lot of care” at the moment.
The presenter appeared exhausted and stated that she had to be up “every two hours” to give Toffee honey for her cough.
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12:30pm.
