Charmaine’s (played by Lauren Hammersley) pregnancy looks like it’ll continue to dominate the storyline when it comes to Virgin River season five after she dropped the almighty bombshell on Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) that he wasn’t the real father in the season four finale. And actor Hammersley was keen to poke fun at this particular plot line given the fact fans will now see her character’s pregnancy continue deep into the Netflix drama’s fifth run.

Despite Virgin River first premiering way back in 2019, the last four seasons appear to have only taken place over the course of a few months.

A lot has happened in that time, from Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s romance blossoming from flirting in the bar to an engagement, to Charmaine announcing her pregnancy and still yet to give birth.

However, with season five now wrapped filming and clips and photos beginning to emerge from the set, it looks like fans will be waiting even longer for Charmaine to welcome her children to the world.

Hammersley poked fun at this directly, taking to Instagram and sarcastically penning to her 27.2k followers: “THATS A WRAP! It’s my 5th year of pregnancy and I don’t know what everyone is complaining about.

“Also wanted to share the artist who made this incredible necklace I’m wearing @bythethorne and @indigenousnouveau styled by @candacecruikshankcostumedesign. SUCH a beautiful piece by a very talented artist.”

Hammersley wasn’t the only one to take a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the lengthy storyline and fans’ complaints.

Paige actor Lexa Doig reacted to Hammersley’s post with the comment: “That baby is gonna be 37 when it’s born…”

While several members of the fandom have made their confusion about the timeline known over the past four seasons, Hammersley’s followers also adopted a humorous approach to the storyline.

Virgin River fan account @melckvirginriver joked: “Charmaine’s twins will come out of her belly and go to college @hammerdoodle.”

While @photogeek59 quipped: “Fifth year of pregnancy?! You’d better start charging that kid rent!!”

And @vrrsmb.xo echoed: “Charmaine should be in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest pregnancy ever!”

However, others weren’t too pleased with the timeline, with @ecronin46 sharing their concerns: “Does this mean you are still pregnant at the end of season 5.. you have been pregnant since season 1….” (sic)

Hammersley didn’t confirm outright whether or not the season would end with Charmaine having given birth or not, however.

But if the snap shared by the Virgin River star to confirm filming had ended was taken on the final day of shooting, it certainly looks that way.

Plus, the Virgin River’s own verified page shared a series of clips from the cast celebrating the end of their season five filming commitments.

And, as fans may guess, Hammersley can be seen enjoying a victory dance while sporting Charmaine’s baby bump.

Whether or not fans will have to wait until season six to see Charmaine’s twins in the flesh, there is another mystery that needs solving.

The identity of the twins’ father continues to be unknown after Charmaine told Jack they weren’t his.

There’s been no concrete answer as of yet but according to Express.co.uk readers, there’s one man who looks the most likely.

Mike (Marco Grazzini) has emerged as the most likely character to be unveiled as the real father by fans who took part in an exclusive poll.

Virgin River seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
