Earlier this year, The Witcher’s lead star Henry Cavill was confirmed to be departing his role as Geralt of Rivia following reports he would be returning to the DC Universe as Clark Kent/Superman. However, in a shock announcement on Instagram, the British film and TV star has confirmed he has also been fired from the superhero series after meeting with Warner Bros execs.

Netflix subscribers have called for Henry Cavill’s return to The Witcher series after losing out on his iconic Superman role.

Henry last donned the tights and cape at the end of Black Adam, promising to face off against Dwayne Johnson’s powerful anti-hero.

However, after meeting with new studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran he confirmed this would be his last appearance just a few weeks after Liam Hemsworth was chosen to replace him in The Witcher.

The news immediately gained traction on social media, with many fans asking if Henry would now be able to replace Liam to continue after the third season.

Fern Riddell tweeted: “Imagine fumbling Henry Cavill. Netflix better go full hallmark movie moment to try and win him back to The Witcher.”

@AlsoPurp asked: “Can Henry Cavill come back to The Witcher now?”

Tove Danovich added: “Can Henry Cavill just go back to The Witcher? It’s a do-over the people want.”

@thegreattwig25 said: “Henry Cavill, go steal back your Witcher role!! Fight Liam if you have to, I don’t care.”

“Damn…never been a big Superman fan but always liked Cavill,” Redditor EinsamWulf 5694 wrote. “Suppose it’s too much to hope we get him back as Geralt.”

And @deathxgrunge tweeted: “Really hope they’ll let Cavill come back as the Witcher because no way he gets f****d out of his two biggest roles when he’s done nothing but nail it.”

Henry’s announcement came shortly after it was confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy director James is currently writing a new Superman script and will be casting a new Superman.

In his latest Instagram post, he wrote: “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone.”

“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.

“James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.

“For those who have been by my side through the years… we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around.”

“Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!

“My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

It’s unlikely the demands will be met for the time being as Liam will have signed a contract with Netflix to appear in at least one season of the fantasy drama.

However, it’s still hoped Henry could return as the iconic monster hunter, though he also has strong odds of becoming the next James Bond.

The Witcher seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
