Jeffrey Dean Morgan returned to screens this past weekend as the 11th and final season of The Walking Dead kicked off on AMC in the USA. And while social media was abuzz with the hype surrounding his character Negan’s reunion with Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan), Morgan took to his Twitter to pay tribute to a former co-star from a different role. Four years after his death, Morgan shared a touching snap with Bill Paxton from their time on History series Texas Rising.

Paxton died in February 2017 after suffering a stroke less than two weeks after open-heart surgery.

The actor was best known for his roles in HBO’s Big Love and big-screen blockbusters Aliens, Apollo 13 and Twister.

Alongside TWD’s Morgan, the pair played Sam Houston and ‘Deaf’ Smith in hit History drama, Texas Rising.

Sharing a snap of them both on-set of the drama, Morgan paid tribute to his pal in an emotional statement on Twitter, writing: “This popped up today on my phone memories.

“Goddamn, I Miss him. So much,” Morgan continued to his 907.6k followers.

The Walking Dead star signed off: “Never known anyone quite like Bill. Never will.

“Loved him with a passion. Everyone lucky enough to know him did. Xxxjd.” (Sic)

And Morgan wasn’t the only one of Paxton’s former co-stars to pay tribute to the actor over the weekend.

Heading to Instagram, Amanda Seyfried, who starred opposite the star in Big Love, shared a similar statement.

“Bill and me,” Seyfried penned alongside a smiley snap of the two. “Sorting through the thousands of photos I’ve packed away over the years has been mostly fun but every once in a while I find one that brings me to my knees.

“I got so lucky to know this man and feel his bright, warm light so often while playing his daughter on Big Love.

“He was wonderful and so deeply loved and I miss him,” she signed off.

It didn’t take long for Morgan’s followers and TWD fans to send their sympathies following the heartfelt tribute.

Replying to Morgan’s tweet, Power star William Sadler echoed: “Got to know him on Trespass. Gone way too soon.”

While a fan commented: “He was an amzing actor!! Is that where you got Paxton’s name from? We just finished TEXAS RISING..again.

“Have you been to Deaf Smith’s homeplace up in Duchess Co.? Alot of questions. Sorry. Just curious. Hope y’all have a great day. One more til #TWD returns.” (sic)

A second added: “Dude I worked with Bill on a project and he was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, wanted to know everything about me and man did he have some stories and knew how to tell them.”

“He was fabulous in everything I ever saw him in. Loved him in The Hatfields and McCoys, Twister, and Titanic, to name 3, but there was so many others.  I’m sure the picture brought up memories of that time together,” weighed in a third.

While a second added: “While I never got to meet Bill, I think of him often, Twister is my favorite movie. Just the passion and energy he had with all of his movies, and his life, I truly admired that.

“Stories I’ve heard from friends, he seemed like the most down to earth guy. I wish he was still here.”

The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC in the USA and the following day on Star via Disney+ in the UK.
