The Great British Bake Off 2019 – when does it start, who's taking part, what's the prize and who are the judges?

THE Great British Bake Off entertained millions last year, with its ninth series seeing Rahul Mandal crowned as the top baker.

And as season 10 is just weeks away from premiering, we’ve gathered together all the details you need to know, including who is expected to return. Find out below…

When is the show returning?

Currently, The Great British Bake Off is expected to return to Channel 4 in August, but an official date has yet to be confirmed.

The show is famously known for running consecutively for ten weeks, so we’re not expecting any different with the upcoming edition.

This would mean that the baking show wouldn’t conclude its forthcoming series until October, very much keeping to a similar schedule from the past years.

With that said, we're still waiting for Channel 4's announcement, so hold tight.

When is the official line-up being announced?

It’s unclear when Channel 4 will announce the official line-up for season 10 as of right now.

However, we do know that applications to take part in the upcoming series took place earlier this year, with producers of the show having contacted successful applicants in February.

So, it’s more than likely that an official list of contestants has been gathered – we just haven’t been told on who they are just yet.

But given that the show is looking to return in August, we’re not too far away from getting the official word from Channel 4.

Who are the judges and hosts?

Paul Hollywood is an English chef and TV personality who is expected to return to The Great British Bake Off for its 10th series.

Let’s face it, without Paul, the show just wouldn’t be the same, and while Channel 4 has yet to confirm his return, it’s more than likely that he’ll be back.

Prue Leith replaced Mary Berry when she joined the TV programme in March, 2017, but is the 79-year-old looking to return for yet another season?

Again, while the details are still under wraps regarding the upcoming series, there’s been no indication to a potential departure for the British-South African restaurateur and chef.

Elsewhere, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig are likely to reprise their role as hosts of the popular TV programme.

What’s the prize?

You’re going to be shocked to hear that there isn’t actually a prize to be won when competing with other contestants in The Great British Bake Off.

Fans of the show would know that the winner is usually presented with flowers and a cake stand, which sounds like a rubbish prize after baking up a storm for ten consecutive weeks.

Well, it’s commonly known for the winners of the show to make a fortune from endorsement deals that follow shortly after winning the series.

Everything from TV show appearances to lucrative sponsorships has seen previous winners make an enormous amount in financial income.

And if that wasn’t enough, the exposure of still being on television will only help boost their popularity, subsequently leading to more offers.

So, in other words, the winner doesn’t really get anything, but the rewards are major once the show is over.
