The Chase's Jenny Ryan is famed for her signature ‘do, featuring a glossy red fringe and a towering beehive.

However, one contestant gave Jenny's barnet a run for its money on Tuesday's show – and viewers couldn't stop talking about it.

Player three was Ellis, a barmaid from North Yorkshire, who came on the show in the hopes of winning enough to buy her own Volvo car.

The 19-year-old's hair was dark brown, rather than red, but she had styled into a glorious beehive, piling her hair on top of her head.

Jenny's beehive was less voluminous than usual this evening, leaving certain fans to predict there would be a "battle of the beehives" as the game went on.

Over on Twitter, viewers couldn't get over the warring hairstyles, as one fan wrote: "Ellis has a bigger beehive than the vixen #TheChase."

"Bet Jenny's p*****d her hair isn't that high #thechase," added a second.

And a third predicted: "Battle of the beehives later."

"Jenny doesn't even have her beehive in this one! When we needed it most," spotted a fourth, remarking on Jenny's pared-back ‘do.

Ahead of the quick-fire round of questions, Ellis filled host Bradley Walsh in on her life in North Yorkshire, revealing she divided her time between farmwork and bartending.

She said: “I've grown up there all my life on a little farm. It's me, my gran and my grandad and we all live there and help out on the farm.

“My Nanna does it mainly and then when we come home we help her carry the bags of food for the sheep and stuff because she’s old.”

Ellis explained they cared for 100 sheep on the farm as well as “a few cows, and then two rabbits”.

The Northern lass admitted she used to own two pigs on the farm, adding: “They got really expensive so we decided they’d be better off as sausages.”

Unfortunately, Chaser Jenny wasn't impressed when Ellis revealed she hadn't brought any sausages to the ITV studio for the team to sample.

"Did you bring any of those sausages?" she asked, and when Ellis shook her head, Jenny replied: "There will be no mercy!"

Despite a few tricky quiz questions, Ellis managed to sail through the second round, making it through to the final with £3,000 in the bank.

"I'm not saying she’s lucky but she guessed well," Jenny said, remarking on Ellis' victory.

The team earned £13,000 between them, but they were no match for Jenny, who sent them home empty-handed with seconds to spare.

The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
