Tesco is the latest brand to come out with its annual Christmas advert, following in the footsteps of the likes of Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and Aldi who have all had viewers’ tongues wagging for different reasons. Now it’s Tesco’s turn to get everyone in the festive mood with the promo fans will be watching until the end of 2021. This time around, the supermarket has gone for an upbeat, toe-tapping advert to a soundtrack you cannot help but sing along to.

Many of the Christmas adverts have come out a lot sooner than expected this year.

John Lewis welcomed the Unexpected Guest and Marks and Spencer saw actor Tom Holland bring Percy Pig to life earlier this month.

Tesco customers have been patiently waiting to see what the shop had in store to entice them.

Despite having to wait longer for Tesco than some of its competitors, it hasn’t disappointed.

The 90-second advert, which premieres during ITV’s The Chase Christmas Special on Saturday, November 13, starts off with a woman outside Tesco.

She is eager to not let anything get between her and spending time with her loved ones over a Christmas dinner after forgetting the cranberry sauce.

The advert follows her journey home, passing others who overcome their own struggles along the way.

From a mum bribing a shopping hall elf with mince pies to keep Santa’s grotto open, to a line of Christmas puddings being lit up at an office party when the lights go out, this year merrymakers are getting creative to keep the festivities alive.

The advert then takes on some of the issues the country faced last year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A news report highlights Santa facing travel restrictions and the possibility of quarantining, while another customer uses an array of vegetables to finish off her snowmen after stock shortages.

A plane-full of holiday-goers are then confused with the ever-changing signs telling them to “travel” and “don’t travel” before they are eventually allowed to take off.

All of which plays out with Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now blaring in the background.

The advert ends with the customer, cranberry sauce in hand, reunited with her family for the festive dinner.

Tesco has taken inspiration from its customers’ feedback during a Christmas survey.

According to the retailer, 86 per cent of those questioned admitted that nothing was going to stop them from enjoying the festivities this time around.

Meanwhile, 42 per cent claimed they would appreciate Christmas more than ever.

Bearing these statistics in mind, Tesco has gone all out in its advert to show this really is the case for 2021.

Chief customer officer at Tesco Alessandra Bellini said: “Our research revealed that people are looking forward to meaningful get-togethers with their loved ones again and given the backdrop of cancelled plans of last year they won’t let anything stop them having a proper celebration this year.

“This got us thinking about all the little things that have the potential to get in our way – from running out of mince pies to running late to a Christmas party – and the nation’s determined spirit that ensures we’ll overcome them all.

“We hope our joyful festive ad will resonate and put a smile on people’s faces as we prepare for a season of well-deserved celebrations. After all, this Christmas, nothing’s stopping us.”
