Succession season three will be airing on HBO on October 17 and the TV drama continues to centre on the dysfunctional Roy family. At the end of season two, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) asked Logan (Brian Cox) if he thought he could ever run the company, but he was shut down by his father. Online sportsbook Bovada has suggested Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) could take over the business.

Who will take over Waystar Co?

Succession fans spent the season two finale deliberating who would keep the family business alive after Logan.

Patriarch Logan said a ‘blood sacrifice’ would be needed in order for the company to get through a crisis.

However, the identity of said person was not revealed in the season finale, with Logan telling Kendall: “You’re not a killer. You have to be a killer.”

He told his son he was too soft to make brutal decisions someone in a CEO role has to make.

With this in mind, fans have been wondering who will step up to the plate and Bovada has suggested Greg Hirsch.

Greg is an opportunist and at first, he was unfamiliar with what he was letting himself in for.

Still, this did not stop his determination to win a place at Waystar and to be part of the family.

He is the dark horse according to Bovada, with odds of +950 that he will take over as the successor.

Marcia Roy (Hiam Abbass) is the favourite to lead the family business, with odds of +200.

Other names thrown into the mix include Kendall (+250), Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) at odds of +250 and Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) with odds of +400.

Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) and Gerri Kellman (J Smith-Cameron) have also been thrown into the mix with odds of +500 and +650 respectively.

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss who they believe will become CEO of Waystar RoyCo by the time the series ends.

A poll was created and the two most popular names were Kendall with 133 votes and Greg with 125.

Byzantine_Guy joked: “Having destroyed the opposition, Greg will rule alone as Gigachad CEO.”

Another fan said: “I think Greg is a logical choice because I think that it shows the corruptive nature of this version of the American Dream where the goal is dominance not a fulfilling life.

“Also, I think that it emphasizes the use of sin in how Greg was able to move up through blackmail and playing most of the people.

“Idk but I think this is the way it’s gonna go.” [Sic] Greg is connected to the family through Ewan Roy (James Cromwell), Logan’s older brother.

He moved to New York to find a job at the family company and he was hired as Tom Wambsgans’ (Matthew Macfadyen) executive assistant.

He was caught up in a coverup in the cruise department but was able to worm his way out.

In the end, Greg chose to stay with the company and choose his career over his inheritance.

The cast of the series spoke to IMDb about who they would like to see take over in season three.

Actor Cox said: “I’m hoping we are going to see the emergence of Roman. I think Roman is going to be considerable.”

Ruck added: “The way things shaped up at the end of season two, that’s not an impossible bet.”

He said: “Don’t count anybody out, it might wind up being Marcia, you don’t know.”

Succession season 3 airs on HBO on October 17.
