Strictly bosses rip outfits off contestants who get the boot, says stars pal11/18/2021
Strictly Come Dancing bosses are allegedly very quick to take the show's lavish outfits away from contestants who get the boot, according to a former star's pal.
The revelation came after Bill Bailey said the glitterball trophy was instantly confiscated from him when he won last year's show.
He said: "We got the trophy, then the broadcast ended and all the lights in the studio came up.
"A bloke from the production asked for the trophy back. He came over with a black bin bag. I’m not kidding. He put it in the black bin bag."
Reacting to an article from The Mirror on Twitter, author Melanie Blake said a similar thing happened to actress Gillian Taylforth when she appeared on Strictly in 2008.
She claimed that Gillian was stripped of her outfit immediately after she was voted off in week two of Strictly's sixth series.
Melanie wrote: "I was with lovely Gillian Taylforth when she was voted off Strictly so I’m not surprised to hear this as they came to her dressing room the moment the show came off air & took the dress she was wearing off her, it had been like 5 mins, she said ‘do you want my tights as well?!’"
Gillian was kicked off the show after losing a dance-off against model Jodie Kidd.
Her professional partner for the series was Anton Du Beke who now features on the show as one of the judges.
Strictly fans were quick to respond to Melanie's claims.
"[Wh]y doesn't this surprise me," fumed one.
"That's tight," joked a second.
Other fans reacted to Bill's claims regarding the glitterball trophy.
One said: "It is the same with the men and women's Wimbledon trophies."
Another shared a story of how he was fortunate enough to come across the trophy whilst house hunting.
He explained: "Wife and I were house hunting in Guildford about 10 years ago.
"In one property, on the breakfast bar and in all its glory, was the glitterball trophy.
"The house belonged to one of the professional dancers (female) apparently."
