Supernatural drama Stranger Things landed on Netflix in 2016, and its three seasons have been hugely successful on the streaming platform. Filming for season four was delayed by the pandemic, but it is hoped the show will be available to watch by early 2022. Jim, as a central character of the show, has a tough exterior but a heart of gold, so viewers might be surprised to learn actor David wasn’t a fan on animals, and ended up having the Byers’ family dog “killed off” the show after season one.

Chester the dog was only in the first series as Will Byers’ (played Noah Schnapp) pet.

He appeared in several scenes, living in the family home in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.

When Will initially runs home after a scary encounter, his dog is thrilled to greet him.

It also indicated that he could sense Will’s presence in the Upside Down after he began barking as Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) used lights to try to communicate with her son after realising he was near.

But Chester wasn’t seen in any other seasons of the show, thanks to David.

David, 46, explained that the dog had been a pain to film scenes with because he always wandered off.

“I hated that f***ing dog so bad,” David said while speaking during an appearance on YouTube series Hot ones.

“Take after take it would wander off or do something. And then I remember the trainer on the sidelines going, ‘Come on! We got to make our money!'”

He added: “Yes, I walked up to them, and I was like, ‘You know, the Byers should probably have that dog put to sleep next season.

“We never talk about it the whole rest of the show. We should find it in the Upside Down in one of these future seasons.”

The 80-based series has been a huge hit with Netflix users since it first became available to stream.

The cast are currently shooting scenes for season four, and producers have dropped a few teasers about what is to come.

Speaking recently about the upcoming series, David who is married to UK singer Lily Allen, said: “I mean it’s bigger, that’s the first thing.

“In scope, in scale, even in the idea that we’re not in Hawkins anymore. We, locale-wise, we’re bigger.”

Other than this, no hints about how the series could end have been dropped, with producers and cast keeping things firmly under wraps.

Fans have a lot of questions they want answered. Among them is the fate of Jim himself who, at the end of season three was presumed dead in an explosion.

His adoptive daughter Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) even grieved her dad and was about to move in with Joyce Hopper (Winona Ryder) and her family.

But eagle-eyed viewers noted some hints in the concluding scene that Hopper was in fact alive.

This was confirmed in a trailer dropped last year, which suggested that Hopper was being held captive in a Russian prison.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
