ITV’s X-Factor was an annual hit show from 2004 to 2018, with Simon Cowell organising the programme and judging the contestants. Sinitta made frequent appearances on the talent show, which was cancelled following a huge decline in viewers. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the 80s star opened up on a wish for the show that was never fulfilled.

Talking about the show’s cancellation, the 58-year-old divulged: “I think it deserves to be remembered for its brilliance and innovations and megastars and magical moments, rather than fizzle out into something no one watches with the same excitement anymore.”

She continued: “Also, it’s a shame I didn’t get to judge!

“I know I shouldn’t be so self-assured about it, but I would have been a great judge, especially with Simon still on the panel!”

The So Macho singer admitted she did feel “relieved” the competition programme had been cancelled.

“I’m sad X-Factor has gone but also relieved,” she explained. “It was a major force and produced magnificent artists.

“It led an entire genre of programs. X-Factor also influenced other production companies and editors too.”

Despite the show being a staple piece of Saturday night television, it was announced in 2020 it would not return.

Prominent faces to emerge from the series include Olly Murs, Little Mix, Rylan Clark-Neal and Stacey Solomon.

But the programme suffered a collapse in ratings during the last few series.

Simon, 62, broke his back in an electric bike accident in 2020.

Speaking on a separate occasion to Express.co.uk, Sintta said the injury had left his future “up in the air”.

She commented in September 2020: “I think everything’s up in the air.

“I think he would have liked to have brought it [The X-Factor] back, I think it’s been difficult because of not being able to do the auditions and everything this year.”

She added: “I think there’s a possibility of doing another version of it with COVID in mind, but with him being so unwell, I just don’t know.

“I sort of don’t want him to do anything, I just want him to get well.

“Maybe God is saying, ‘Can you just sit still for a minute and put your health first?’”

The America-British singer talked to the publication this month as part of the Stoptober Campaign she has become involved with.

Having recently quit smoking herself, she explained: “The advice I would give for quitting smoking is to join Stoptober now.

“Tell everyone around you that you are going to give Stoptober a go, as having a good support network around you is one of the best things you can do for your quitting journey.”

Smokers are being urged to join the thousands of people who are stopping smoking this October. For free support to quit search ‘Stoptober’ or go to https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/ for information on local support services to help you quit.
