‘Sex and the City’: How Sarah Jessica Parker Would Channel Carrie Bradshaw if She and Matthew Broderick Have Another Wedding

Sarah Jessica Parker has often said that she’s nothing like her popular Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw. Since the show first aired in 1998, the actor said she doesn’t always agree with Carrie’s choices. However, she revealed one element of her famous alter ego she would use if she remarried Matthew Broderick.

Sarah Jessica Parker infamously wore a black wedding dress when she married Matthew Broderick

Parker and Broderick saw each other for the first time in Nov. 1991. The Ferris Bueller’s Day Off actor directed a play for the Girls Just Want To Have Fun actor’s brothers’ theater group, Naked Angels Theater Company. In early 1992, Broderick finally asked Parker out on a date. Soon, the pair became inseparable and began their lives together in New York.

In 1997, Broderick and Parker got married after five years of dating. They tied the knot at a New York City synagogue. The event came as a surprise to their family and friends. Additionally, Parker opted to break tradition by wearing a black dress that she found at a local boutique.

“Oh, I wish it was because I was badass,” she said, per Bazaar. “I just was too embarrassed to spend any time looking for a wedding dress. There was a store that I liked that I knew, and I just went and got whatever they had hanging.”

How Sarah Jessica Parker would use Carrie Bradshaw as inspiration for a second wedding

Although her decision to wear a black dress to her wedding was a bold fashion statement, Parker admits that she regrets the action. In 2009, she said she “regrets” using the dress to draw attention away from herself on her big day. Also, Parker and Broderick both didn’t want to make their wedding day about them, hence the surprise nuptials.

During a 2015 interview with Martha Stewart Weddings, Parker said she and Broderick discussed having another wedding. If she decided to walk down the aisle a second time, she would wear a more “traditional” gown. Additionally, Parker wants to channel her and Carrie’s love of fashion and sport a designer dress. In the Sex and the City movie, Carrie wore a Vivienne Westwood piece for her wedding to Mr. Big (Chris Noth).

“If I were getting married today, I’d likely wear cream, just to have that bridal experience,” she said. “Now I would want my dress to have an Oscar de la Renta feel, pockets below the waist, a very fitted bodice, a huge skirt, in taffeta or duchess satin. That silhouette appeals to me because it’s old-fashioned yet can look very modern.”

Parker will play Carrie again in a ‘Sex and the City’ reboot

Parker plans on continuing to channel Carrie Bradshaw in 2021. This past January, the Emmy nominee shared on Instagram that a new Sex and the City series will premiere on HBO Max. The latest installment stars Parker as Carrie. Actors Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are also returning as Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York.

“I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?” Parker captioned under the SATC trailer. X, [email protected] @JustLikeThatMax #AndJustLikeThat #SATCNextChapter.”

The reboot, titled …And Just Like That, has yet to publish a release date.
