After a surprising end to season four of CBS’ SEAL Team, fans re-watched the military drama and a major factual blunder was spotted – during season two. This clued up fan exposed the factual error ahead of the release of the upcoming season, now in production on Paramount+.

In the episode titled Fracture, the SEAL Team were deployed and tasked with undertaking a bomb disposal mission on an oil rig.

Having trained to undertake dangerous and high stake operations across the world, the professionals went to the Gulf of Guinea, as the rig had also been overrun by a new terrorist organisation.

This mission also included freeing American hostages who were being held by the armed militants because of the oil rig.

Ahead of the mission, their Petty Officer Lisa Davis (Toni Trucks) briefed the team on the mission and this is where a viewer noticed the plot hole.

Taking the clued up fan exposed the error and posted: “The briefer on the oil platform mission says the platform is 12 stories, and 80 million square feet.

“Doing the math, that makes it half a mile per side if completely square, it is nowhere near that size as shown.

“The largest oil rig in the world – Berkut in Russia’s Far East – has a combined deck area of only 342,000 square feet.”

The American oil had been boarded by new armed militants where two Americans were killed. They didn’t want to be bribed but instead to have their presence noticed.

The SEAL Team believed the new terrorist group planned to sell the stolen oil to fund their future missions.

They were kept at the rig until sunlight battling terrorists with the help of their new EOD (Explosives Ordinance Disposal) Summer Kairos (Ruffin Prentiss).

In one epic scene, he had been defusing an explosive as a terrorist crept up. Summer shot the enemy and before completing his task.

In the season premiere, fans were also surprised to see Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr) join Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz) and the rest of the SEAL Team.

In the season one finale, Jason learned that Ray had lied about a shoulder injury for the deployment money that his family needed.

This episode was set six months later when he felt ready to rejoin the SEAL Team after being reassessed to Green Team to recover.

However, Jason rejected him after stating that he had lost trust, as a life had been lost due to the lie.

Back at home, Jason was going through his own issues with wife Alanna Hayes (Michaela McManus).

The couple were going through a divorce and, in the episode, fans watched as he spent a night sleeping on the sofa.

The failure of their marriage was a result of his demanding role as Master Chief Special Warfare Operator of the Bravo Team.

Despite his relationship gone sour and his friendship with Ray on the rocks, Jason was forced to put that all behind him and lead the team at the oil rig.

All episodes of SEAL Team is available to stream on CBS.
