Richard Madeley on Im a Celeb will be ‘entertaining TV’, says son-in-law James Haskell

Richard Madeley’s son-in-law James Haskell has said the presenter will be an ‘amazing’ I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! campmate and will create TV gold.

James, who took part in the ITV entertainment series in Australia in 2019, appeared to confirm that Richard is preparing for life in the Welsh castle during an interview with Good Morning Britain.

The 36-year-old, who is married to Richard’s daughter Chloe, slipped up as he told GMB co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard: “I think he’ll be amazing… he might be amazing. Hypothetically he would.”

James went on to sing his father-in-law’s praises, saying he will be “compassionate, kind, sweet and intelligent.”

He continued: “He’ll understand how to look after people. He’s a feminist, he’s everything, he crosses everything and I think he’ll make entertaining TV and it’ll help people.”

James then added: “The fire still burns bright with him, I know he was on GMB and doing everything else, and if you gave him a chance, he’d be everywhere, doing everything. He would never have retired, so I think he’ll enjoy it.”

James also offered further insight into his relationship with Richard since marrying into the family, joking that he’ll never be able to live up to him in his wife’s eyes.

He confessed: “I’ve got one bugbear with Richard, which is he’s made my life with my wife so much more difficult because he’s such a good man.”

James explained: “She puts him on a pedestal and reference point for everything.”

“I fall way short, way short. She always compares us. If he’s the top of Everest, I’m in base camp having a coffee.”

The rugby star also offered his top tips for life in the camp, highlighting the ups and downs the cast will have to overcome.

James recalled: “The hardest thing is the lack of feedback. Normally, I’d do a show, come off of it and look on social media and find out whether people liked me or didn’t like me.”

“I walked out of that and the first day Chloe said, ‘Look, we need to have a word. You’ve gone from doing really well to [being] public enemy number one.”

He added: “What saved me was that when I came out, my campmates were upset about me leaving which, luckily, helped me.”

Richard is said to be heading into the Castle alongside a starry line-up including Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson.
