Racy period drama Bridgerton could become new Downton Abbey after Christmas Day success12/29/2020
RACY period drama Bridgerton could become a new Downton Abbey.
Screenwriter Chris Van Dusen wants to adapt all eight of the Julia Quinn books it is based on after its Netflix debut proved a Christmas Day hit.
The first series highlights the courtship of Daphne Bridgerton, played by Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor’s daughter Phoebe.
Other stars include Regé-Jean Page.
Chris said: “I would love to be able to explore love stories and romances for all the Bridgerton brothers and sisters.”
“We’re set in the 19th century but we still wanted modern audiences to relate to the show and to see themselves on screen no matter who you were.”
A TV insider said: “With so much material to work with there’s every chance it could develop into multiple series.
"And it’s fair to say it has an added edge that Downton didn’t have.”
“The show has proved such a hit it’s set to make the little known leading cast members into household names who can command a bumper pay rise when the second series starts.
