Piers Morgan struggled on 'four hours sleep a night' with coronavirus fears09/21/2020
Piers Morgan opened up about how he struggled to sleep during the height coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Piers and co-host Susanna Reid discussed her interview in The Telegraph at the weekend, where she described having terrible nightmares in lockdown.
After joking that the nightmares were brought on by him, the TV presenter shared his own experiences during lockdown.
Having reported on the coronavirus pandemic at its height when the UK went into lockdown in March, it’s understandable that it would eventually take its toll.
Susanna shared: ‘I did find them quite distressing and having a sense of powerlessness that I couldn’t help.
‘We were here reporting during the pandemic and the stories were overwhelmingly upsetting in the most part, because we were dealing with so much bad news. It was affecting so many people.’
Piers revealed that he would get little sleep for ‘months on end’ as he was as worried as the rest of the nation about what was happened in the early stages of the pandemic.
He said: ‘I would normally go back [home] and try and have a bit of sleep, and I couldn’t during that whole period. I remember going whole days just living off four or five hours max a night for months on end.
‘We weren’t alone. People were having a much tougher time than we were.’
Susanna added: ‘That was the thing, this isn’t about me personally being affected, although of course our team has been affected and we were all very concerned about that.
‘It was just that overwhelming sense that we were in the grip of something that was very frightening. All we could do was present the news to you.’
The comments come after Susanna described ‘waking up screaming and crying’ after nightmares in lockdown.
She told The Telegraph: ‘It was an anxious time for everybody, but those early days were very frightening.
‘I started to have really vivid, terrifying nightmares where I would wake up screaming and crying even though I couldn’t quite remember what the nightmares were.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
