Outlander season 6 filming: Where will the next series be filmed?

Outlander cast tease details of ‘exciting’ season six

Outlander has faced several delays over the past year due to coronavirus Covid-19. This meant filming was postponed from its original production date in May 2020 and is only planned to begin in the coming weeks. However, ahead of this beginning, more information has been revealed about where filming will take place for season six.

Where will Outlander season 6 be filmed?

Back at the end of December 2020, the stars of Outlander confirmed what fans had been waiting for months to hear.

Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin all revealed filming was about to begin on season six.

This was announced in a special visit to the show’s costume department posted on the show’s Twitter page.

Heughan said: “Obviously 2020 has been a crazy year for all of us and we’re having to make amends and we’re having to adapt to learn to deal with the situation.

“But we are so excited to say that we are finding a way to get Outlander back on the screen.

“Obviously we have to dress lots of people because there are many, many more settlers coming to Fraser’s Ridge.”

The news was exciting for fans as the show was not able to begin filming for almost a year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Now it is finally happening and there have been some more revelations about where filming will take place.

The show will be heading back to its production hub in Scotland once more.

This is located in Wardpark Film Studios, which is in Lanarkshire in the Lowlands of Scotland.

The set is where the majority of non-location specific filming takes place for the time-travelling drama.

Ahead of production beginning, it was confirmed the producers had spent £150,000 on a private testing centre for the cast and crew.

This has been built in the car park of the film studios and will be available to test stars three times a week.

Filming is set to begin in the coming weeks when the centre will begin being used, according to the Daily Record.

There has been no confirmation yet whether the series will film anywhere else.

The show usually features locations from all around Scotland, which double for where the series is set in North Carolina.

However, the exact location of where these are is not always disclosed by Starz.

Executive producer Meryl Davies explained: “There is a right-to-roam law in Scotland, where you can pretty much go anywhere you want.”

She added to the New York Post: “Because of that, we like to try to protect some of these people [who live near shooting locations] so they don’t have too many people visiting their properties.”

Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
