Netflix to issue warning over ‘graphic’ Princess Diana scenes in The Crown11/05/2020
The Crown Season 4 drops on Netflix this month, and will cover the years between 1979 and 1990.
In the series, Prince Harry and Prince William’s mum Diana, who tragically died in a car crash in 1997, will be seen growing increasingly lonely and miserable.
In the new series of the Royal drama viewers will also see Princess Diana’s eating disorder develop after getting engaged to Prince Charles.
And the scenes are reportedly so graphic Netflix has had to put a warning on before the episodes.
Tragically, as the marriage of Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor, and Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin, begins to crumble, she can be seen violently vomiting.
According to The Sun, three of the 10 episodes will carry viewer discretion warnings at the beginning to warn of the scenes.
The warning will reportedly read: “The following episodes include scenes of an eating disorder which some viewers may find troubling. Viewer discretion is required.”
A TV insider told the publication: “This is an unprecedented move by the creators of the drama. After all, it has previously featured scenes of war, a suicide bid, and will even include a terrorist attack in the new series.
"But they have never chosen to issue a warning over these potentially disturbing images. It’s a reflection of how explicit the imagery is and how sensitively they are treating it."
In a troubling scene, Diana can be seen gorging on food before going into the bathroom to be sick, and turning the taps on to cover the sound.
Her eating disorder will also feature in two more episodes, including one where Charles becomes jealous after the Princess of Wales proves more popular than him during a Royal tour of Australia.
A spokesman from Netflix told Mirror Online : "The Crown producers worked closely with the eating disorder charity, BEAT, to ensure that their portrayal of Princess Diana’s bulimia was both accurate to the disorder and sensitively handled, and when viewers watch the series on Netflix they will see warning cards at the beginning of the episodes giving details of how to seek help if required."
As well as Diana’s journey, the series will also explore the Queen’s relationship with Margaret Thatcher, and the effect of her leadership on the country.
Olivia Colman returns as Queen Elizabeth II, alongside Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Erin Doherty (Princess Anne).
