Money Heist fans have been impatiently waiting for the return of the Spanish drama. Netflix will be releasing series five of the internationally successful show which is, unfortunately, going to be its last. It was announced by the creators that Money Heist would be coming to an end last year.

What is the meaning behind the Money Heist theme tune?

While there have been some major changes in the show itself since 2017, Money Heist’s theme tune has remained the same.

Entitled, My Life is Going on, the music was composed by Manel Santisteban, while the lyrics were written by Spanish singer Cecilia Krull.

In contrast to the upbeat workings of the drama, the theme tune is far more slow-paced and almost calming.

And as you can tell from the lyrics, it is meant to provide a positive message.

The lyrics for My Life is Going On:

If I stay with you, if I’m choosing wrong

I don’t care at all

If I’m losing now, but I’m winning late

That’s all I want

Now we need some space, ’cause I feel for you

And I wanna change

Growing up alone, it seems so short

I can’t explain

Whatever happens in the future, trust in destiny

Don’t try to make anything else even when you feel

I don’t care at all

I am lost

I don’t care at all

Lost my time, my life is going on

I will be so strong, looking for a new version of myself

Cause now all I want is to be a part of my new world

Whatever happens in the future, trust in destiny

Don’t try to make anything else even when you feel

I don’t care at all

I am lost

I don’t care at all

Why not have it all

I am lone

I don’t care at all

Lost my time, my life is going on

My Life is Going On is all about living your life on your own terms.

The lyrics speak of not caring at all about what happens or what others say, stating that “Whatever happens in the future, trust in destiny”.

This idea is very much reflected in the series as well as each of the robbers have gone down this path that many wouldn’t agree with but have done so because it is right for them.

By participating in these criminal activities, they are shaping their own destinies, for better or for worse.

Talking about what got her creative juices flowing when it came to the lyrics, Krull told online publication SounDarts.gr that it was one character in particular which got her thinking.

She said: “I gained inspiration by the character of Tokyo (played by Úrsula Corberó) when I first saw images from the first episode.

“I knew and felt that the series would be great! But we never expected that huge and worldwide success! It’s amazing!”

Over the past four years, Money Heist’s official music video has been viewed more than 93 million times on YouTube.

There isn’t too much longer to wait before the return of La Casa de Papel.

Money Heist’s fifth and final season will be premiering on Netflix on Friday, September 3.

The series will be split into two parts, with the first half coming out next week and the final five episodes being released at a later date.

Money Heist is available to watch on Netflix.
