Love Island's Caroline Flack insists she didn't snub Francesca Allen on Aftersun07/22/2019
Love Island’s Caroline Flack has responded to backlash after she appeared to snub Francesca Allen on Aftersun.
On Sunday night’s episode of the partner show, the 39-year-old interviewed the dumped islander.
After watching the contestant’s best bits, things got slightly awkward when Fran stood up seemingly expecting a hug form the host.
However, Caroline quickly walked past her and went to sit with the other guests.
Fans couldn’t help but speculate that this was in response to an unearthed tweet, which showed Fran’s friend Paige Banks call Caroline a ‘pedo’.
After hearing the news that the star was dating Harry Styles, the pair took to Twitter in 2012 with Paige writing: ‘Highligh of the dayyy seeing Caroline Flack and calling herrr a dirtyy pedo withhhh @francesca_allen hahaha (sic).’
But Caroline has since insisted this is not the case, and posted a tweet to explain why she ran past Fran.
Addressing her 9.91million followers, she said: ‘As you know … I hate commenting on stuff…
‘I didn’t snub Francesca .. in fact quite the opposite .. made her feel very welcome as soon as she got to the studio.’
The much loved host added: ‘I don’t hold grudges.. and the wellbeing of our islanders is important to me. Thought she was a great islander.’
After the tweet was rediscovered, representatives for Fran shared a statement on her behalf.
‘This was a historic tweet that has not come from Francesca directly,’ the explained.
‘Francesca can’t reply as she is in the villa but she would be mortified if she was judged based on the actions of a 16 year old friend.’
They added: ‘She has a lot of respect for Caroline and is looking forward to meeting her.’
Caroline and Harry raised several eyebrows in 2011, thanks to their 14-year age gap, and in 2015 Caroline revealed the level of abuse she received after their relationship went public.
‘It began to go wrong when Harry was pictured coming out of my house one morning,’ Caroline wrote in her autobiography Storm In A C Cup.
‘And once that was out, it was open season. After that anyone could say anything. In the street people started shouting at me “paedophile” and “pervert”.’
Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm.
