Linda Nolan spoke with Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid on Monday’s Good Morning Britain after the singer was spotted in a wheelchair at the weekend. Linda explained to the presenters that the cancer had spread to her brain, admitting she was “frightened” about what was to come. She went on to add that she was going to lose her hair when chemotherapy treatment starts.
Linda’s latest setback came following a series of falls but she is hoping a new chemo drug will help her.
“People have been getting in touch asking, ‘What’s wrong?’ and I just want to tell you from me, unfortunately sadly for me, the cancer has spread to my brain,” Linda began.
“I only found out on Monday and it’s obviously very frightening because there is not much help for brain cancer at the moment apart from radiotherapy which I am going to be having.
“But there is a new drug which has been in use for a year for brain cancer, so they’re going to try me on that as a chemo drug with some other treatment.
“I have always been honest so I just wanted people to know that is the situation, I am not giving up, I am positive.”
She continued: “I am going to lose my hair again for the fourth time.
“My sister said, ‘At least you have got some nice wigs now’. I have moved back in with my sister to live, I was having falls.
“The cancer in my bain was affecting my balance and I had three quite bad, nasty falls.
“As usual, my amazing family, I am back living with my sister Denise and her partner, Tom.
“And Maureen has been looking after me the past two weeks, just with balance issues.
“I bought a wheelchair and getting stuff ready for the inevitable really.
“It is a scary trip to be on this one.”
When asked about her symptoms, Linda admitted her new diagnosis came as a complete shock.
“my speech hadn’t been affected or my vision,” she said. “I wasn’t getting headaches.
“I was hoping that… I was praying it was something to do with my spine, something that had affected my balance.
“So really it was a shock when he said, ‘Yes, it’s in your brain’ that is all I heard.”
She added: “Initially, immediately you think, this is the start of a long and winding road.
“The hope is with this new drug, they’re hailing it as a wonder drug, so hopefully it does wonders for me. Please, God.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
