Following their “passionate” performances and noticeable chemistry on Strictly Come Dancing, professional dancer Kai, 26, and TV presenter AJ, 33, have been at the centre of widespread speculation that the two are in fact dating. They wouldn’t be the first couple to be born from the BBC competition, but appearing on spin-off show It Takes Two on Tuesday, Kai quashed the rumours and claimed their steamy Argentine Tango from the past weekend was part of the job.

It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal didn’t waste too much time in delving into the gossip when the two appeared on the chat show.

“It was just so good,” he commented as they discussed their Argentine Tango which saw them achieving impressive scores at the weekend.

He quickly probed: “You mentioned Leandro and Maria who were so good with the choreography this week.

“But they might have been a bit too good.”

As the couple appeared sheepish, the 33-year-old continued: “Because the passion in this routine – I mean, it set the rumour mill going, didn’t it Kai?”

AJ laughed as the dancer replied: “It did.”

“Can we settle a few scores here, please?” Rylan asked, “I have known AJ for many a year now, I know she can’t lie to me.

“What’s going on?” Rylan bluntly asked as the Strictly couple didn’t respond, but simply laughed as they glared at one another.

“Listen, I know your mother!” Rylan joked.

“We said this, right,” Kai eventually began to explain, “I said this to you [AJ].

“If people react like this, then it means we’re doing something right because that’s the way the dance should be done.

“And Leandro and Maria choreographed it this way, it was a very passionate song – a real fiery piece, and very intimate.

“And that’s what we wanted. And that is the characterisation of the Argentine Tango.”

Slapping down the reports of the pair embarking on a romantic relationship, Kai hit back: “So if people want to think that, then great.

“But we were just doing our job, and she did a great job.”

“Just doing their job, alright?” Rylan sneered jokingly at the cameras, adding: “Now stop it!

“Leave them alone, just trying to enjoy themselves!”

It comes as their most recent performance followed a couple of other intimate dances.

During week four’s dance in question, the pair appeared to “almost kiss”, which erupted a social media frenzy.

The judges also commented on the chemistry between the pair after they held their intense glare at each other following the performance.

It came after fans also “spotted” a moment between swimmer Adam Peaty and his partner Katya Jones’ dance.

The pair were also considered to have “almost kissed” after their Argentine Tango.

Strictly – It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm on BBC Two, while Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.45 on BBC One.
