Jennie McAlpine was gutted over Coronation Street split story

It was a controversial direction for supposedly solid Coronation Street couple Fiz Stape and partner Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) when they split up after Tyrone’s mid life crisis saw him cheat with Alina Pop.

Viewers and Fiz were not happy with Tyrone – and it turns out Alan and Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz, weren’t exactly doing cartwheels either.

Jennie explained to ‘It’s been such a weird time, the way we have had to film everything. I don’t know. What I said at the beginning, we were gutted as we thought we wouldn’t work together. But actually we’ve done more scenes.’

Speaking about the Christmas storyline, she continued: ‘I guess her year has been not what she thought – unpredictable. It was a huge surprise they were going to split them up – and Fiz was just as surprised. It was a bolt out the blue that it wasn’t roses and joy.

‘It’s been a way of her getting used to a new way of life without Tyrone as her life partner. She wants peace at Christmas…’

Of course, as Tyrone makes a pass and has a bonkers fight with Phill, she will get anything but.

Despite her disappointment that Fiz and Tyrone split, Jennie reckons she shouldn’t be with another man for a while.

She sighed: ‘She needs time on her own, yes, I totally understand that her world was blown apart and she had no-one to help practically.

‘When Phill came along, she felt let’s do it. People don’t want to be on their own. I’d like her to think she could have done something better. Evelyn and Fiz together on their own – girl power!’
