The British screenwriter and producer reportedly asks to withdraw her contributions to the program and have her name removed from the show’s credits over concerns about the direction of the storyline.

AceShowbiz -Jemima Khan has distanced herself from “The Crown” after helping with its scripts, because she finds the portrayal of her late friend Princess Diana “disrespectful”.

The writer and producer worked on the series with creator Peter Morgan and earlier this year (2021), the pair began dating, following the Emmy winner’s split with his previous longtime girlfriend Gillian Anderson.

He and Khan reportedly separated in February after a brief romance and she has now asked to withdraw her contributions to the program and have her name removed from the show’s credits.

“We worked together on the outline and scripts from September 2020 until February 2021,” she told The Sunday Times.

“When our co-writing agreement was not honored, and when I realised that particular storyline would not necessarily be told as respectfully or compassionately as I had hoped, I requested that all my contributions be removed from the series and I declined a credit.”

Jemima had never previously spoken publicly about her friendship with Diana, but was keen to help give an accurate version of events.

“It was really important to me that the final years of my friend’s life be portrayed accurately and with compassion, as has not always happened in the past,” she explained.

Khan reportedly worked on outlines for scripts about Diana’s relationship with Dodi Fayed – her boyfriend at the time of the pair’s 1997 deaths in Paris, France – and her 1995 BBC Panorama interview, with journalist Martin Bashir, in which she famously said there were “three of us” in her marriage to Prince Charles, referencing his now-wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

A spokesperson for the hit show has responded that Khan had “never been contracted” as a writer, but had merely helped producers with their research.

“Jemima Khan has been a friend, fan and a vocal public supporter of ‘The Crown’ since season one,” the representative told the British newspaper.

“She has been part of a wide network of well-informed and varied sources who have provided extensive background information to our writers and research team – providing context for the drama that is ‘The Crown’. She has never been contracted as a writer on the series.”
