I’m in therapy to get over my cheating ex so I can be emotionally ready for my next relationship, says Denise van Outen

DENISE van Outen has revealed she's in therapy after her split from cheating ex Eddie Boxshall.

TV and stage star Denise, 48, split from partner of seven years Eddie earlier this year after it was revealed he'd been sexting other women behind her back.

The shock heartache took its toll on her emotionally, but with the help of a therapist Denise is slowly building her life back.

She told Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast: "I’m good actually. I wasn’t good, you know. We’ve had conversations. And as I said, I am sensitive. I wouldn’t say I’m fully healed, but I am getting there. I’m also for the first time in my life I’m doing therapy, which I’ve never done before.

"I think I always thought I could solve everything myself. I think because everything that happened floored me, like literally floored me, I then wanted to sort of start to understand why there seems to be a pattern as well, not just on the other side of it but on my side.

"Why I allow myself to sometimes perhaps try to fix things and make things right. I think I’m a bit of a fixer. I try to fix people you know, and sometimes it’s to my own detriment. Not always. I think that’s what I’m trying to understand."

The therapy sessions are helping Denise understand who she really is beyond the celebrity persona she's built up over the years.

And she's hopeful it will stand her in good stead for her next relationship.

It's also helped her have honest conversations with daughter Betsy, who she shares with West End star Lee Mead.

Having been in a relationship for so long, Denise finds the concept of dating apps daunting, and admits she would rather meet someone organically.

Speaking of finding love again, Denise said: "I’ve always gone into any relationship with a massively open heart because I just always think that people are going to be honest and loyal, because that’s how I approach everything, and you start to realise that we’re not all the same.

"I think it will be a little bit of an issue, but it’s something I’m just going to have to work through and just… at the time, when the time’s right. But I am open to it.

"I’m kind of trying to just accept that it was just a little blip in my life and I’ve just gotta accept it for what it is and what it was and learn from it, and grow from it. You learn about yourself more and try to take the positives out of it rather than the negatives. And for me, just to make sure Betsy’s alright, really. That’s the main thing. I’m worried about her being OK and how it’ll affect her going forward."
