CHILDREN In Need is back for another year of fundraising for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
But how much money did the campaign raise in 2020? Here are all the details and the total sum since its inception in 1980.
How much did Children In Need raise in 2020?
The 2020 November Appeal total grew to £57million as donations and fundraising income continued to pour in following BBC Children in Need’s 2020 Appeal show last November, which culminated with an on-the-night total of £37m.
As a result of the donations, during the pandemic BBC Children in Need awarded 2,700 grants to a value of £73m, supporting local charities and projects addressing a range of issues affecting children and young people.
Collectively, the event and its related local fundraisers across the country have raised over £1 billion for more than 3,900 local charities and projects since 1980.
The virtual show was hosted by former footballer and broadcaster, Alex Scott, and comedian Chris Ramsey in an audience-free studio for the programme's 40th anniversary.
They were joined by some guests though, including the nation's PE teacher, Joe Wicks who managed to raise an impressive £2,248,479 in his epic 24-hour PE challenge.
How can you donate or fundraise for Children in Need 2021?
There are a number of ways to fundraise, including sponsorships, dinner parties and cake sales.
Sponsorship involves getting people you know to donate to the campaign, while with a dinner party the host will ask diners to donate the price of their favourite takeaway.
Cake sales can be given an added twist by making your colleagues in the office judge the entries before selling them.
