He wasn't the only one that did not return as director Chris Columbus, composer John Williams and stars Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern all decided against being part of the third release.

According to IMDb, Culkin wasn't keen on returning for Home Alone 3 because he grew tired of playing Kevin and other child roles.

There was an idea for a third installment with a teenaged Kevin McAllister, but Culkin was still avoiding the spotlight.

The studio decided to go in a different direction for the third instalment, rebooting the franchise with new child star Alex David Linz.

However, Home Alone 3 was unsuccessful compared to its predecessors, making $79 million against a $32 million budget.
