Emmerdales Marlon star teases sensational 50th anniversary episodes

Emmerdale ’s 50th anniversary celebration is edging closer and closer and star Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, has revealed what’s in store will be nothing short of “sensational”.

The village-based drama series is set to air special episodes and a one-off documentary featuring loved cast members, from both past and present, as they discuss and give tribute to the ITV programme.

Mark, 53, gave a tease of what viewers can get excited for in the anniversary celebration as he spoke to OK!

He revealed: “We’ve just been emailed them [the scripts]. They’ve just arrived and it’s nothing short of sensational.”

While nothing else was given away about the soap's 50th tribute, it has been shared that the upcoming documentary will include Emmerdale clips from significant plotlines and unearthed moments from the ITV archives never-seen-before by fans.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “This milestone celebratory tribute will also recall some of the standout 74 weddings, 43 births and 105 deaths in the show since 1972, while reminiscing over some of the show’s most popular family dynasties including the Sugdens, the Tates and the Dingles.

“Along the way, we’ll discover the original ambitions of Emmerdale Farm’s creator – the playwright Kevin Laffan, how the TV critics and viewers responded to the show and its early depiction of rural life.

“And ultimately how it has transformed to reflect the changing lives and appetites of its loyal audience.”

Actor Mark is currently in an engaging storyline with his character Marlon after he suffered a stroke.

Marlon is due to face his most difficult task since his recovery, as he has set a target for himself to walk down the aisle at his wedding with Rhona Goskirk in upcoming emotional scenes.

Mark has played the role of Marlon on Emmerdale since 1996 and he remains one of the soap's longest-running characters.

Speaking of his time on Emmerdale, he added: “There’s a real family vibe here.

“It’s been a wonderful job and being part of the history of it feels very special, especially coming up to this year. Because I remember the 40th like it was yesterday.

“That decade’s gone like lightning, which I suppose attests to the fact that it’s never been dull and it is fun to work here. I’m very proud to be part of it.”

Mark added: “I used to watch it with my nan and gran when I was a little boy in the afternoons in the 70s. To be part of that feels lovely for me.”
