The ITV soap has revealed former Waterloo Road star Will Ash has been cast as troubled Cain Dingle’s (played by Jeff Hordley) long-lost brother, who will arrive in The Dales and cause a stir with the already-struggling family. In explosive Christmas scenes, fans will learn Emmerdale stalwart Cain has kept his brother’s existence a secret from sister Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) since the two were teenagers. Could the unwelcome arrival lead to a dramatic showdown for the Dingles?

The family feud between Cain and Chas doesn’t look set to be resolved by Christmas.

The siblings fell out over the murder of Al Chapman (Michael Wildman), which Cain is taking the rap for.

A showdown between the two men commenced once Cain realised Chas was cheating on her husband, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) with Al.

However, Chas has no idea that in actual fact, Cain’s young son Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) was the one who pulled the trigger leading to Al’s fatal shooting.

Cain is determined to protect his son, so his sister doesn’t know the truth, but the pair have shared some strong words in recent rows.

Emmerdale bosses have announced that Will is going to be joining the Dingle family this Christmas, playing Caleb Milligan, a well-connected, successful businessman.

Cain is set to be bewildered when Caleb turns up without notice during the celebrations.

The reunion is tense as Caleb bombards his brother with difficult questions.

The soap has revealed the latest bombshell for the family will make things even worse between Cain and Chas once the latter discovers what her brother has kept from her for so long.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw stated: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Will Ash to the Village.

“It’s fantastic to have such a high calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team.

“Arriving on screen on Christmas Day, Caleb has to undoubtedly be the most unexpected and shocking Christmas gift Cain and Chas have ever received!

“Calm and in control, rich and successful, at first glance Caleb is everything his brother isn’t, but will the pair find they have more in common than they thought?

“What secrets from the past will come back to haunt them and how will the rest of the family react when Caleb strolls into town?”

She concluded: “His arrival certainly promises to shake things up for the Dingles and make 2023 start off with a huge bang!”

Will Ash remarked: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show.

“Emmerdale is packed full of fantastic actors and I’m really looking forward to working alongside them.

“Caleb is a fantastically complex character and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Christmas is always a big event in the soap calendar, so fans will be gearing up for an action-packed festive instalment.

With so many secrets already being kept in the village, will Caleb’s arrival be the first of many to be revealed?

Perhaps a huge showdown within the family could lead to some dramatic consequences.

Emmerdale continues on Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
