Emmerdale: Vinny and Mandy visit Paul in hospital

Harriet Finch (played by Katherine Dow Blyton) has a lot on her mind lately as she continues to cover up DI Malone’s (Mark Womack) death to protect Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) in Emmerdale. However, as new vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) settles into his new role, Harriet will make a huge decision about her future that could suggest she’s not coping and her health could be suffering because of it.

In upcoming scenes, Charles tell Harriet he has a meeting with the Bishop and she assumes she’ll be forced to leave her job.

However, the new vicar argues that’s not the case but Harriet is fed up of letting her parishioners down.

She tells Charles she’s quitting explaining why she thinks it’s best for everyone.

However, the new arrival is shocked and tries to talk her out of making such a big decision when neither of them knows why the Bishop wants to meet with him.

The next day, Charles tries to convince Harriet to change her mind but she’s adamant it’s time to walk away from the village church.

Harriet breaks down in tears as she asks Charles to tell the Bishop her plans but will he do as she wishes?

Later, Moira Barton (Natalie J. Robb) arrives at the church after hearing about Harriet’s shocking admission.

She urges Charles to not let Harriet go without a fight and points out she’s in no state to be making big decisions.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Kevin opened up on how Charles feels about his colleague.

He said: “From the get-go, he has been saying to Harriet that you’ve got nothing to worry about.

“‘I’m not here to take your spot, I’m here to work with you and I want to work and do whatever I can to help’ and he can see that Harriet is troubled by something.

“He’s not sure what it is, he doesn’t want to pry too much he wants to gain her trust.”

“And by working with her and not against her he’s hoping that Harriet will let her guard down,” he continued.

“Not in a bad way, there’s nothing sort of cynical with it he just genuinely wants to make friends and help out.”

“He doesn’t want her to resign,” he continued. “He doesn’t want her to leave because he thinks that she’s got so much, still to offer.

“I think he’s trying to encourage her to see she’s still got faith and Charles has faith in [her] and she should find the faith in herself.”

The actor shared Charles’ concerns for Harriet as he said: “He is worried about her because she almost hits a rock bottom and he wants to help her up and pick her up a bit.

“He doesn’t like seeing her in this in this space and he at first, wants to do as she wishes [which is] she wants to resign.

“But then Moira comes and puts another light on it and another spin on it and makes him think, ‘Right I’ve got to keep this woman, I’ve got to keep her here she shouldn’t leave.’”

Will Charles be able to persuade Harriet to stay or will she leave the village after saying goodbye to the church?

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm.
