EASTENDERS' bad boy Max Branning will meet his match in his new lover Ruby Allen, claims actress Louisa Lytton.

The 30 year-old actress, who has played gangster's daughter Ruby since 2005, has revealed in a new interview that her character is set to give rogue Max a run for his money.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday's Fabulous magazine, she said of the relationship: "[Ruby's] been through a lot, but she's back on the other side now, and I think it's going to be quite a good partnership. Max might finally be out-Maxed!”

Viewers recently saw the pair hook up, and Louisa – who returned to the soap last autumn after a 12 year-break – is thrilled to be sharing so many scenes with actor Jake Wood.

"Jake is such a good actor," she said. "I love working with him. We get on so well. Obviously I knew him years ago when I was a lot younger, but it doesn’t feel weird. There’s no discomfort. I’m really loving it. For me it’s great because he’s such a popular character, so to be put with him really centres Ruby."

Asked why she thinks female fans go crazy for Jake's character, she admitted she isn't sure of the exact reason for his sex appeal.

“I don’t know!" she laughed. "When I left the show I was a young girl and I remember the women around me loving Max Branning – the sex symbol of the show."

Max and Ruby bonded as he helped her with her business plans and the pair fell into each other's arms, despite Ruby being unaware of her best pal Stacey's history with the ginger hunk.

With Stacey having now left the square after attacking Phil, the door is open for Max and Ruby to explore their burgeoning romance.

It's certainly nice to see Ruby having something to smile about following her harrowing ordeal last year when she was raped on a night out and had to testify against her two attackers.

The powerful storyline saw Louisa, who recently got engaged to boyfriend Ben Bhanvra, nominated for a Best Actress gong at the upcoming Inside Soap Awards.
