EastEnders residents paid their final respects to Dot Cotton (played by June Brown) on Monday as the square came together for the legend’s farewell. Eagle-eyed BBC viewers spotted a clue about the whereabouts of a beloved character that has long been assumed dead.

On Tuesday, newcomer and relative of Dot’s Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) is seen looking through his great auntie’s cards.

One in particular stood out for a lot of fans as it appeared to be signed by Arthur ‘Fatboy’ Chubb (Ricky Norwood).

The card read: “Mrs B – forever in my heart. Arthur x.”

Fatboy, always used to refer to Dot by her affectionate nickname Mrs B and was close to the stalwart.

Fatboy was last seen in Walford on Christmas Eve in 2015 but was tragically killed after being caught up in the feud between the Mitchells and the Hubbards.

Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood) assumed Fatboy had been killed after finding his necklace, phone and some blood in the boot of a crushed car.

The dodgy character sent letters to Dot signed by Fatboy to trick the Walford legend into thinking her friend was living abroad.

Vincent has since been killed off which suggests the real Fatboy could be behind the sweet card.

Could Fatboy make a dramatic return to Albert Square? EastEnders fans hope so.

@horsekween asked: “The card that Reiss was holding at Sonia’s said ‘Mrs B’ from ‘Arthur’ does that mean Fatboy is alive????”

@LunaPhoebeQuinn tweeted: “#EastEnders Omg the card it’s from Arthur “fatboy” Chubb ! He is alive!”

@OnLindensWings questioned: “Fatboys alive?!? ‘Mrs B- Love Arthur!!’ #EastEnders.”

Dot’s funeral provided an opportunity for past and present residents of Walford to come together.

Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was spotted paying his respects to Dot from a distance.

As Dot’s coffin entered the church, Ian was seen watching proceedings from afar.

“Goodbye, Dot. I’ll miss you,” he remarked as he held back tears.

Ian’s phone then rang and he was heard telling the caller: “Hello love. I’m coming home.”

He then walked off away from the church as the funeral service began.

Old friends Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman CBE),  Barry Clark (Gary Hailes) George ‘Lofty’ Holloway (Tom Watt), Mary ‘the punk’ Smith (Linda Davidson) and Disa O’Brien (Jan Graveson) joined Dot’s step-granddaughter Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) in Monday’s episode.

EastEnders airs on BBC from Monday to Friday at 7.30pm.
