Dancing On Ice’s Denise Van Outen to get special help from Joe Swash before show01/12/2021
Denise Van Outen's competitive spirit has already started to show, with the Celebrity Gogglebox star reaching out to a former Dancing On Ice champion for tips.
Last year saw actor Joe Swash skate his way to victory, winning the Dancing On Ice trophy and beating his rivals Perri Kiely and Libby Clegg to the punch.
Ahead of the 2021 launch, Denise, 46, has vowed to secure some tips from Joe, picking his brains before hitting the rink.
When asked whether she knew anyone who had participated in the past, Denise said: "Yes!
"Reigning champion Joe Swash so I will be hitting up Swashy for some tips."
Denise, who previously ranked as runner-up during the tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, has a level-headed game plan when it comes to the competition.
The mum-of-one plans to commit to a rigorous training schedule, putting the hours in the hopes it will pay off on the rink.
She said: "Even when I did Strictly I did extra hours. It takes me longer to learn things and retain information so I have to do it like that. I have to do things over and over."
As soon as she masters her skating technique, Denise plans to whisk her daughter Betsy, 10, around the ice.
In the past, Denise admitted she was too nervous to let go of the wall of the rink, instead asking friends and her partner Eddie to take Betsy skating.
She said: "I actually would like to be able to go with her. I don't want to be that mum who can't do something or can't give it a try."
No doubt, with months of training under her belt, Denise will be skating circles around her nearest and dearest – though one person's opinion matters more than most.
Hoping to impress her daughter Betsy, she said: "The thing is we live close to a really big ice rink too so I want to take her."
Dancing on Ice returns on Sunday, January 17 at 6pm on ITV.
