Dalgliesh season 2 features three very different murder mysteries

Official trailer for Season 2 of ‘Dalgliesh’

Dalgliesh is returning to Channel 5 and the new series opens with the story Death of an Expert Witness.

The series begins with the discovery of a young girl’s body in a remote part of Norfolk and a senior biologist is murdered in his lab.

Creator Helen Edmundson said of the new series: “We are a year on from where we left Dalgliesh (played by Bertie Carvel) in the first series.

“He has had a bit more time to process the loss of his wife and baby.” He also builds on his relationship with colleague DS Kate Miskin (Carlyss Peer).

Express.co.uk has all you need to know about how many episodes are in the series.

The second season of Dalgliesh is split across three stories taking place in very different settings.

Death of an Expert Witness is set in the 1970s and it will be told across two episodes.

The second story, A Certain Justice, follows an illustrious barrister who helps an obvious killer walk free.

Again, this courtroom tale will be told across two episodes as Dalgliesh discovers the barrister has been murdered.

The third and final story, titled The Murder Room, takes place at the Dupayne Museum, an institution famous for its curious exhibit of the most heinous crimes of the interwar years.

Once again, the story will be told across two episodes, meaning season two is made up of six episodes in total.

Each episode will be an hour long and they will air on Thursdays and Fridays across three weeks.

The first episode will air at 9pm on Thursday, April 27, with episode two airing the following night on Friday, April 28.

With this in mind, episodes three and four will air at 9pm on May 4 and May 5 respectively.

Viewers will then have to wait a week for the final two episodes to air, on May 11 and 12.

Commenting on Dalgliesh and Kate’s relationship in season two, actor Bertie said: “I love working with Carlyss and it’s been great to really develop their story.

“I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the relationship between Miskin and Dalgliesh is a major thread of the season.”

Dalgliesh airs on Thursday on Channel 5 at 9pm
