Coronation Street star signs new bumper deal to stay on Cobbles after becoming a fan favourite | The Sun
03/11/2023A CORONATION Street star has confirmed a bumper new contract – much to the delight of fans.
Actor Tony Maudsley, 55, who plays George Shuttleworth, joined the soap as Eileen Grimshaw's love interest in 2020.
Back in 2022, he told how he had penned a fresh contract lasting until this year.
Now Tony – who played hairdresser Kenneth du Beke in ITV comedy Benidorm- has taken to his Twitter to announce another year-long extension.
Alongside a clip of his Coronation Street character tending to Eileen, who had been knocked out on the floor in front of Gail Platt, Tony wrote on Twitter: "I only told her I'd signed a new contract and this is what happens!
"I thought she'd be pleased! #RUDE That's George keeping Eyelash on her toes until at least July 2024 and I couldn't be happier."

Previously, Tony told of his long-spanning working relationship with Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen.
Tony said: "Me and Sue were married about 20 years ago in a show called City Central.
"When I went for the part Sue very kindly came in and read with me and we had an instant connection.
"When we worked together 20 years ago we got on so so well and that spark was absolutely still there.
"I felt it, Sue still felt it and the casting director and the producer felt it because they said, ‘I think we’ve found our George’."
The Sun on Sunday revealed earlier in 2020 how Tony had joined the soap but that the pandemic had delayed his debut.
Tony's happy news came after Corrie welcomed another Benidorm star onto the cobbles last year.
Viewers were delighted to see Derren Litten make a cameo in March.
