Coronation Street fave Katie McGlynn joins Hollyoaks just 18 months after leaving the cobbles

FORMER Corrie fave Katie McGlynn has signed up for another soap — just 18 months after leaving the cobbles of Weatherfield.

The 27-year-old, who played tragic Sinead Tinker on the ITV drama, joins Channel 4’s Hollyoaks as a yummy-mummy.

But this is a much darker role for Katie, who has ditched her striking blonde locks to become a brunette for her character’s arrival on screens next month.

She will play new mother Becky, who befriends fellow parent Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher), the wife of Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).

But Katie’s character — who will be seen first on July 5 on E4 and then on Channel 4 the following day — has an ulterior motive.

And this goes way beyond providing moral support and sharing experiences of motherhood.

Katie said: “When I first read the script, I knew instantly that this storyline was an important one and something I could sink my teeth into.

“I’m so excited for everyone to meet Becky. I’m hopeful the story will have an impact on the viewers as it covers some extremely current and important issues.

“I’m super humbled to continue doing the work I really love and hope everyone enjoys watching it all unfold on screen as much as I’ve enjoyed filming it.”

Katie used social media at the weekend to show off her new look while out on the town in her native Manchester.

She posted a picture of herself on Instagram with her new brunette hairstyle, adding the caption: “Who said blondes have more fun?”

Her Hollyoaks role will be a far cry from that of Coronation Street’s Sinead — a part she played for seven years before the young mum character died of cancer in October 2019.

Katie was also seen on our screens last month playing a single mum in the BBC One drama The Syndicate, opposite Neil Morrissey and fellow former Corrie actress Kym Marsh.
