A new Coronation Street online game has shocked fans who claim the script is packed with "smut and filth".

The app – which allows players to help Bet Lynch renovate the ITV soap’s famous Rovers Return pub – is loaded with cheeky double entendres that left viewers stunned and delighted.

In one clip cartoon landlady Bet – who was played by actress Julie Goodyear, 78, for 37 years – is depicted standing outside the pub front door saying: "It’s been a long time since my entrance was this tidy!

"It looks belting!’"

The Conversation Street Podcast, which posts gossip about the show, tweeted: "Now that’s definitely rude.’"

Another screen grab, showing the boozer undergoing renovation after its famous fire, features Bet saying: "By ‘eck, we put in some elbow grease there!

"But it’s paid off, the floor is dryer than Annie Walker’s sherry.’"

A fan of the show responded: "I won’t lie, I didn’t expect this sentence to end with sherry.’"

Another segment showed Ken Barlow, played by actor William Roache, 88, since Corrie’s first episode in 1960, standing in front of his living room fire saying: "It’s been a long time since I had wood in my basket.’"

"Filth I tell you," replied the soap podcast. "We’re loving all the dialogue in this.

"All of the little references AND the smut, of course.’"

The game – called Coronation Street – is produced by Swedish developer Qiiwi (corr) and available for download on Apple and android platforms aimed at an audience aged 12+.

Its blurb states: "Welcome to Coronation Street! It’s time for you to step onto the cobbles and help Ken Barlow, Bet Lynch and many of your favourite characters in this new crossword game based on the UK’s favourite continuing drama Coronation Street!

"Help Ken give his old house a whole new look. Design it, decorate it and unearth buried treasures from Ken’s past."

It continues: "Head to the Rovers Return Inn where you can help Bet renovate the world famous pub and restore it to its former glory after it’s consumed by yet another fire.

"Decide on the legendary pub’s new look, and get it up and running again so Bet can serve the thirsty locals.

"In order to progress in the game you will need to solve entertaining and funny crossword puzzles.

"Beat and complete these crossword levels to unlock new chapters in the story. Discover secrets and the hidden mysteries of Coronation Street with some classic characters.’"

Nikki Murray, head of publicity for ITV Live Brand Experience, said the game had been officially licenced by the soap and was a `lovely bit of light-hearted entertainment which is being incredibly well received’.

"We’re excited to have been able to launch to the global market – with a cheeky nod to the spirit of the show,’" she added.
