Carole Baskin has savage response after missing husband's family airs DWTS ad09/15/2020
Tiger King’s Carole Baskin has responded to her missing husband Don Lewis’ family airing a commercial during her Dancing With The Stars debut – and she’s not having any of it.
The Big Cat Rescue boss who, of course, danced to Eye Of The Tiger for her first performance, said she only knew about the advert 10 minutes before she was set to take to the dance floor.
She told Metro.co.uk in a statement: ‘Someone (a reporter I won’t name) made sure that I knew about it 10 minutes before going out on the dance floor tonight and you can see that it did not keep me from bringing the best performance of my two weeks of learning.’
Well, that’s that then.
News of Don’s disappearance came to light during Netflix’s wildly popular series Tiger King, which stars Carole and follows her rivalry with zoo owner Joe Exotic.
Joe accused Carole of being behind her former husband going missing and claims he thinks she ‘fed him to the tigers’, but Carole has repeatedly denied any involvement in Don’s disappearance.
He went missing in 1997 and was declared legally dead five years later in 2002.
With Carole facing a lawsuit from Don’s family, who are offering a $100,000 (£76k) reward for information on what happened to him, they also took the opportunity to appeal to DWTS viewers.
Variety reports that the ad went out to viewers watching in Tampa and Jacksonville in Florida and saw Don’s daughter, his family attorney, and former assistant pleading with those who know anything about what happened to him or Carole’s alleged involvement to come forward.
Carole released a statement referring to Don going missing on her Big Cats Rescue website earlier this year, denying any involvement.
It read: ‘Don was not easy to live with and like most couples we had our moments.
‘But I never threatened him and I certainly had nothing to do with his disappearance. When he disappeared, I did everything I could to assist the police.’
During her DWTS debut, Carole was completely on-brand, taking to the floor in a tiger print dress and her trademark flower crown headband, with her partner Pasha Pashkov.
However, despite her best efforts, the star’s performance fell a little flat, with the pair scoring just 11 and landing at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Dancing With The Stars is currently airing on ABC in the US.
