BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood opened up in a recent interview and revealed her secret relationship.

The popular weather presenter split from her husband Jimmy Kirkwood in 2008 and after 18 years of marriage, their divorce was finalised in 2012.

Nine years on, the 59-year-old has proved it’s never too late to find love.

Speaking to Prima Magazine for their July issue, Carol revealed that she has a new man in her life who is always making her laugh.

"I don't want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he's always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well!

"He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it's 2.45am!

"And he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses."

Carol told the magazine that she doesn't know if she would ever remarry but opened up about how her partner has made her the happiest she's ever been.

The interview comes as Carol plugged her first novel Under A Greek Moon, where she said: "Writing about romance came easy, as I'm a die-hard romantic."

In 1990 Carol married property developer Jimmy Kirkwood, and in 2018, Carol broke her silence and spoke to the Radio Times, where she openly discussed her divorce: "I found myself when I got divorced. I started to do things and to think, 'I’m not going to say no, I’m going to say yes!'"

Carol is clearly in a good place with her secret boyfriend, telling Prima, "He is the best thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt."

Carol’s new book Under A Greek Moon was described by Harper Collins as being a "glamorous and escapist read", as it focuses on a Hollywood actress dealing with the aftermath of "scandal".

Expected to be released in stores on July 8, Strictly Come Dancing's professional dancer Anton Du Beke, has previously described it as "a real treat".

Carol has been a regular fixture on BBC news since 1998 and although she’s got a book coming out next month, we doubt she’ll be closing up her umbrella and putting her shades away anytime soon.
