BBC's Dan Walker turned down Strictly 2020 over 'wingspan'

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has revealed he turned down appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this year due to his ‘wingspan’.

The presenter joined Angela Scanlon and Ronan Keating on tonight’s episode of The One Show where he shared he believes his height would get in the way of his dancing, and therefore has yet to sign up.

‘There’s a regular phone call that comes in,’ Dan confessed. ‘The problem is I’ve got a big wingspan. I’m 6ft6, I’d need a big dance floor.

‘I always think that Strictly is a better spectator sport than it is to participate.’

He continued: ‘I love watching people like Ed [Balls] on the programme, but’s not for me at the moment.’

Ed, who was sat in the One Show studio, insisted: ‘Come on Dan, you’d be brilliant!’

‘I’d love to see that wingspan flying around the ballroom,’ added Angela.

But it looks like Dan’s arm won’t be twisted anytime soon.

‘I know for a fact I’d slap a partner in the face very early on, it’d be awful,’ he said.

Strictly continues on Saturday and will see Nicola Adams and Katya Jones dance a jive to Greased Lightnin’ during movie week.

Meanwhile, reality star Jamie Laing, who narrowly escaped elimination at the weekend, will perform a charleston to Zero To Hero from the Disney film Hercules with his partner Karen Hauer.

Jacqui Smith was the first celebrity to be eliminated from this year’s series.

‘I’m just sorry I can’t continue it with this man who has been absolutely fantastic and gorgeous to be with,’ she said of her partner Anton Du Beke upon her exit.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
