American Pie's Chris Klein, 41, shocks fans as he looks like a 'grandad'

AMERICAN Pie fans have been left shocked as the movie's heartthrob Chris Klein appeared on TV now he's in his 40s.

The actor, famous for playing nice-guy jock Chris 'Oz' Ostreicher in the 1999 film, spoke about how he now bags 'dad' roles.

But many were obsessed with just how different he looks from his days as a clean-cut hunk – though many insisted his pin-up status was still intact.

One wrote: "Omg. He looks like a grandad."

Another cautioned: "Going from 20s to 30s to 40s is quick."

Others reckoned he was beginning to resemble fellow movie star Kevin Spacey while several insisted it's been so long since the film aired it would be miracle if he looked the same.

Chris, who is now 41, share two children, son Frederick Easton, four, and daughter Isla Rose, two, with wife aina Rose Thyfault.

He appeared on Aussie breakfast TV show Today Extra saying he was "a bit gobsmacked" to be cast as a dad in Netflix's Sweet Magnolias.

Chris explained: "I have to tell you guys, I was a bit gobsmacked when we started this whole thing and there I was playing the dad of the teenagers."

He added with a laugh: "It sure happens fast."

American Pie made stars of its cast, which included Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan and Tara Reid.

Released in the summer of 1999, the original film celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

WITH second lockdown officially kickstarted here in the UK, plenty of couples may end up feeling the strain after another four weeks stuck indoors – and celebrities are no exception.

During the first lockdown, several star couples bit the dust, with Love Islanders among the hardest hit. Here, we run down some of the biggest celeb pairings who crumbled during the crisis…

Candice Brown & Liam Macauley

BAKE Off's Candice Brown has split from her husband Liam Macauley less than two years after they got married.

Liam has moved out of the flat they shared above her pub, with her agent telling the Mirror: “I can confirm Candice and Liam separated earlier this year."

In October 2017 Candice confirmed they had got engaged after rumours swirled for months that they were heading down the aisle.

Reflecting on the proposal, Candice explained: "I get emotional. Because it's been such an amazing year. I feel very lucky.

"I've had such incredible opportunities – GBBO opened so many doors – and to top it off he puts a ring on it."

She also revealed that Liam had proposed to her in a car park where they had spent time on their first date and that she had cried for five minutes before saying yes.

Her split earlier this year came just months after she opened up about battling depression and admitting she'd thought about self-harm.

She revealed she’s been on antidepressants and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder medication for five years — and says she has considered self harm.

The telly star, 35, admitted that baking had helped her deal with her mental health issues along with group therapy.

Wes Nelson & Arabella Chi

They might be one of the best-looking couples Love Island has ever produced – but they couldn't last lockdown. The Sun Online revealed that Wes, 22, and Arabella, 28, split after nine months together earlier this year – with him choosing to move out of their home rather than isolating together. He went to stay with old villa pal Josh Denzel and his girlfriend, with the trio spotted cheerfully doing their daily exercises together in London over the summer.

Chris Hughes & Jesy Nelson

Love Island's Chris, 27,  and Little Mix star Jesy, 28, broke up while isolating in separate homes. The Sun Online revealed that the couple had called it quits after dating for more than a year.

And because of the coronavirus crisis, the pair – who had been discussing marriage not long before the split – had to break up over the phone.

Georgia Steel & Callum Izzard

Ibiza Weekender star Callum wound up having to leave the Essex flat he shared with Ex On The Beach's Georgia during lockdown. The reality pair had set their sights on marriage just a month after they started dating last year – but The Sun Online revealed those plans had been scrapped. A source explained: "They were recently flat hunting in Manchester together, but it’s been called off. Georgia is now planning to move up to Manchester alone.”

Kady McDermott & Myles Barnett

Love Island's Kady and Towie's Myles are having a time-out from one another while the health crisis rages on. The Sun Online revealed the pair are "taking a break" – despite spending thousands of pounds transforming their bungalow into a four-bedroom house. A source told us: "They decided to go their separate ways while isolating, but are hoping to get things back on track and move into the new place together."

Shane Lynch & Sheena White

Boyzone star Shane admitted that he wasn't living with his wife during the corona crisis.

Speaking on Paul Danan's Morning After podcast, he explained: "We have had difficult times and are going through difficult times right now in this isolation thing. "I’m not even in my family home right now because me and her were at each other's throats. It wasn’t a good time or a good space."

However, in July of this year Shane's Boyzone bandmate Keith Duffy suggested that Shane had reconciled with Sheena in a happy ending twist.
