Channel 4 presenter Scarlette Douglas toured around Vera Beach, Florida in a recent episode of A Place in the Sun. She guided married couple Cecil and Patricia around some homes in the area. The pair revealed they had a maximum budget of £180,000 and wanted to find a house with lots of space in case their seven adult children want to visit. The pair viewed a number of properties and even set their heart on one, however viewers were soon frustrated when the negotiations didn’t go according to plan.
The first property Scarlette took Cecil and Patricia to was a three bedroom ground floor condo.
It was located 15 to 20 minutes drive from the coast and was on the market for just under £93,000.
“Wow! Wow, I’m really impressed,” Patricia confessed, upon viewing the property.
However, the couple noted it was their dream to be as close to the beach as possible and this property may have been a little too far out.
Property number two went down a treat with the house hunters, boasting three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The house bungalow also had a large open plan kitchen and living area.
On the market at just over 167,000, the property clearly impressed the couple.
Cecil remarked: “Wow this is nice, this is what we dream about.”
The more of the property they saw, the more impressed Cecil and Patricia became.
Cecil even branded the house “breathtaking” and said: “This is the dream.”
The third property Scarlette took the couple to view was a three bedroom, two bathroom detached house.
It also featured an extra living room at the front of the house which could be used as an additional bedroom.

On the market for just over £175,000, Scarlette highlighted it was much bigger than the previous property.
“You’re working magic here,” Cecil said to Scarlette, before confessing the property was a serious contender.
Scarlette took the couple on to view a further two properties, but there was one that still stood out in their minds.
When they met up with Scarlette again they revealed property number three was the one for them.
“It was like a no brainer,” Patricia remarked, with Cecil agreeing: “Couldn’t say no.”
The pair decided to put in an offer of £165,000 for their dream property.
Scarlette highlighted the couple had taken around £10,000 off the asking price.
Negotiations soon got underway with the seller as they quickly came back with a counter offer of just under £173,000.
Cecil and Patricia went back to the seller hoping to get a compromise, with an offer of £168,000.
However, it seems the seller wasn’t impressed as they once again declined the offer.
After a long negotiation the couple managed to come to an agreement with the seller who accepted their final offer of £171,500.
However, at the end of the episode Scarlette revealed the seller pulled out of the deal the very next day.
Channel 4 viewers were gutted for the couple and quickly took to Twitter to share their frustration.
One fan wrote: “The seller pulled out. All that for nothing #aplaceinthesun.”
“Nice couple, shame the seller was an idiot. Hope they eventually find somewhere. #aplaceinthesun,” a second commented.
Another remarked: “Aww the vendor pulled out…they were a lovely couple too! #aplaceinthesun”
“Couple on #aplaceinthesun just found their dream Florida home, haggled their arses off to close the deal then in the end credits the voiceover said ‘the next day the sellers pulled out of the deal.’ I feel cheated,” a fourth added.
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
