All Creatures Great and Small season three will return to Channel 5 in the near future. The new season was confirmed during a Talkshire podcast with Siegfried Farnon star, Samuel West. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what to expect from the new season.

When is All Creatures Great and Small season 3 out?

The latest TV adaptation of James Herriot’s books has become one of Channel 5’s biggest success stories.

Actor Samuel West opened up about the escapist show’s third season, saying filming will start in the Spring.

When asked whether there will be a season three to come, he said: “We have. We start next March, God willing.

“And that will be pretty much to the model we established this year, six episodes and a Christmas episode.

“So filming for four months from the beginning of March to the beginning of July. So again, the Dales at their best.”

Both of the previous seasons have aired in September, so season three should air in September 2022.

Who is in the cast of All Creatures Great and Small season 3?

Although the cast list is yet to be confirmed, all of the fan-favourites will return.

Nicholas Ralph and Rachel Shenton will be back as James Herriot and Helen Alderson.

Callum Woodhouse will reprise his role as Tristan Farnon, with Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall.

Patricia Hodge should return as Mrs Pumphrey, with Will Thorp as Gerald Hammond.

The series also features an extensive guest cast, which is yet to be announced.

What will happen in All Creatures Great and Small season 3?

Actor West explained how season three will be set in the year 1939, the year of the Second World War.

He said: “We had the hopes for peace and we are heading into a war which will be seen very much through the working life of the community.

“And the working lives of the profession of the vets, but where that’s going to go, I don’t know.

“We haven’t seen the scripts yet.”

Season three will also address the engagement between James Herriot and Helen Alderson.

There could indeed be a wedding on the cards.

Is there a trailer for All Creatures Great and Small season 3?

As filming is yet to begin there is no trailer at this moment in time.

With filming due to wrap in the summer, fans will probably be treated to a trailer at the start of September 2022.

Actor West said the cast were unable to spend much time together socially outside of filming.

This was mostly due to the pandemic, and he said: “It was a difficult shoot in that respect”.

It was five weeks before they were able to have their first social drink as a company.

James actor Nicholas Ralph previously spoke to Express.co.uk about the third season.

He addressed requests from fans that each season should contain more episodes.

The star said: “To be honest it’s not anything I have really thought about, it’s more a production sort of thing.

“It’s something for them to ponder. I don’t know what the outcome would be but we love making the show.

“We have such a fun time up there and we are always having a laugh and getting up to all sorts.”

All Creatures Great and Small is available to watch on My5 and AcornTV in the UK and PBS in the US.
