Adele teams up with Pearl Jam star Matt Chamberlain on highly-anticipated album

12/17/2020

ADELE is best known for her emotional ballads, so I didn’t expect her to be teaming up with a rock star on her fourth album.

But ex-Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain has revealed he is one of the lucky few people to have heard what she’s been working on after going into the studio with her.

Matt, who has been playing drums on recordings for her upcoming album, revealed that he had teamed up with her last week — and teased how the songs gave him “chills”.

He explained: “I just got to work on some new music for Adele and to hear that voice in my headphones was giving me chills. It was just so powerful and emotive.

“You know her voice, but to be across the room from somebody doing that, it’s just insane. You hear it on the radio and whatever and you go, ‘Yeah it’s really good’, but to be in the room with these people and feel that energy, it’s just so heavy.”

It looks like Adele will be making a fair few more sad songs, as Matt told how she is working with writer Rick Nowels, who has helped pen poignant songs for Lana Del Rey and Madonna.

DIDO’s tear-jerking mega-hit White Flag was co-written by Rick too. Speaking in the US, Matt added: “She’s writing new material with her songwriter Rick Nowels. She wanted to do it with some drums so we just put our masks on, she was in the room. Yeah  . . . holy s***.”

Her most recent album, 25, was released in 2015 but last month she confirmed the follow-up still wasn’t finished. However, the fact Adele is now recording the songs suggests she is well on her way to completing it.

US sources have claimed in recent days that she is seriously considering the Grammy Awards on January 31 — due to be a live show — as the perfect opportunity to make her return.

The ceremony is being put together by producer Ben Winston, who helped get Adele on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke during her last album campaign.

Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa and Beyonce are among other acts said to have signed up to play at the LA ceremony.

Adele would certainly be in good company.

Maur on tour

SHE looks red hot but Maura Higgins hammered the message home in this bikini.

The former Love Islander is currently on holiday in Dubai with her boyfriend Chris Taylor.

The pair went public with one of the worst-kept secrets in showbiz shortly before they left the UK.

Despite spending much of lockdown together looking love up in social media, Maura insisted they were just good pals.

She finally came clean with a gushing Insta post, writing: “He’s mine.”

Chris followed suit, saying: “Turns out I fell in love with my best mate.”

I wish my best friend was as hot as Maura – Chris is one lucky bloke.

No roast for Anne-Marie

ANNE-Marie is an easy dinner guest on Christmas Day – you don’t even need to buy a turkey.

The Alarm singer hates roasts and says this year she is campaigning for a plate full of Yorkshire puddings instead.

She told me: “I’ve always had a pretty amazing Christmas experience. The only problem is that I don’t like roast dinners.

“So although I’m looking forward to it, I do dread the Christmas dinner.

“I like Yorkshire puddings so recently I’ve been asking for the massive Yorkshire puddings, and filling it with other Yorkshire puddings, so that might happen this year.

“Other than that it’s a proper special day, play some games and have fun.”

Sticking a load of Aunt Bessie’s in her Christmas stocking would make for a cheap day.

Jamie ghoul goul

WHILE most enjoy a carol or two every Christmas, Jamie Cullum’s traditions are a little more novel.

The jazz singer said of his festive rituals: “Reading ghost stories. From December 1, all I want to do is read about haunted houses.”

Jamie, whose new album The Pianoman At Christmas is out now, is also sickeningly organised.

He added: “I love giving gifts. Someone can mention something in June and I’ll write it down then so I don’t forget.”

Kim to get in the Mix

JESY Nelson can rest in the knowledge she’s not alone in quitting a girl group for her mental health.

Pussycat Dolls’ Kimberly Wyatt says she’s been there before.

The singer revealed she is planning to reach out to Jesy following her departure from Little Mix, as she also walked away from the Pussycat Dolls in 2010.

She said: “I 100 per cent can empathise with Jesy and her decision. It came as a huge shock. I think Little Mix are brilliant and she’s a huge part of why they are brilliant.

“I’ve been in her shoes, I had to make the decision to step away because of mental and physical health and needing to find a way to have a balance, to then come back ten years later.

“It’s a huge shock and I’m looking at ways to reach out to Jesy and be a source of helping her through it. She’ll need some people in her life who [can] accept, embrace and empower her through this transition.”

Jesy spoke out yesterday for the first time since the announcement, thanking fans for their support.

She said: “I just want to say thank you so much to every one of you that has shown me so much love and support over the past few days.

"Some of your messages have made me feel so emotional and I appreciate it so much. Love you all.”

Battle for Xmas no1…7 days to go

THE battle for Christmas No1 begins today and front-runner LadBaby is hoping to enlist the help of MEL B in a bid to equal the Spice Girls’ record of three consecutive festive chart toppers.

I’ve learned the YouTuber plans on reaching out to her and is keeping his fingers crossed in the hope she gets behind his song Don’t Stop Me Eatin’, which is raising funds for foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

After I told Ladbaby – who shot the music video in a mobile “shed” with his wife Roxanne, pic- tured above – that Mel follows him on Instagram, he said: “No way. Oh my God. I had no idea, that’s blown my mind. I reckon that’s the most famous person that follows me.

“I’m going to message her, I reckon there’s a little duet in the making here. My wife Rox always gets the celebs who follow her, like Giovanna Fletcher and Frankie Bridge.

“She’s always showing off that she has cool people following her but I’m excited about Mel.”

Five years after they battled it out for the Xmas No1 spot, Justin Bieber has teamed up with the Lewisham And Greenwich NHS Choir for a new charity version of his hit Holy.

In an exclusive chat, choir leader and physiotherapist Caroline Smith, said: “We got an email asking if we would like to collaborate with Justin Bieber, as you do. It’s been quite quick to put it together and we learned it virtually as we were rehearsing online.”

She added: “It’s a year where lots of people are struggling, so if we can raise lots of money, whichever charity, which-ever record it goes to, then that’s a fantastic opportunity.”

Good on them.

Bowie tribute

DURAN Duran and Yungblud have joined the line-up for a huge live-streamed show to celebrate what would have been the late David Bowie’s 74th birthday on January 8.

Adam Lambert and Anna Calviare also in the line-up as are some of Bowie’s band members for the ticketed virtual show A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day.

The rock legend died in 2016.

Gem of a look, Nic

NICOLE Scherzinger looked good enough to sit on top of her Christmas tree in this gem-encrusted dress.

She wore it to film the final of The Masked Singer in the US.

It saw LeAnn Rimes crowned the winner, with Aloe Blacc and Nick Carterrunners up.

Nic will be getting ready to put her feet up for the festive season – just in time for the UK version of The Masked Singer, which kicks off on Boxing Day.

Tay praise for Brits

TAYLOR Swift has thrown her support behind hotly-tipped Brit singers Maisie Peters and Griff after they teamed up to cover her song Exile.

The pair posted a video on YouTube which was shared by the superstar.

Taylor tweeted: “I’m a huge fan of these two already but seeing them create magic in the studio together just makes me even more excited to hear what they do in the future. Absolutely love this, what a gift.”
