Emma Mackey, who received a BAFTA nomination for Best Female Comedy Performance for her portrayal of Maeve Wiley, boasts 6.3 million Instagram followers.

According to the research, which was undertaken by sexual health Accurate STD Testing, found that the English-French actor can earn an average of £12,150 per social media post.

Co-star and on-screen love interest Asa Butterfield, meanwhile, takes home £11,517 for each post shared with his 5.6 million followers.

Otis' mother Jean, who is played by acting royalty Gillian Anderson, can take home £4,484, adding to her reported net worth of $40 million, while on screen best friend of Butterfield's character Ncuti Gatwa can earn £5,216.

In terms of follower count EastEnders actor Mimi Keen is next on the list behind Butterfield. Her 4.1 million followers grant her £7,989 per post.

Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for Accurate STD Testing said: "Sex Education has proven to be a massive hit for Netflix and the cast are able to reap the benefits. The show has helped to increase conversations around the topic of sex and sexuality whilst also removing many negative stigmas.

"It’s fascinating to see the benefits of the show's popularity for the cast members in particular with figures like these suggesting the influence of Sex Education is not going anywhere soon."
