Fans and friends of the late Britain's Got Talent legend Ian 'Roycey' Royce have rallied around and donated over £7,000 for the comedian's funeral – including Good Morning Britain star Piers Morgan.

Ian, 51, was known as the life and soul of shows such as The X Factor, BGT and Piers Morgan's Life Stories, getting the live audience into stitches of laughter before the main events.

Now, it has emerged that his close friend and co-star, Piers Morgan, has donated a sum of money to a GoFundMe page, set up by Ian's daughter, Roxanne.

The GoFundMe page reads: "Ian Royce was a funny, kind-hearted and loved man who felt at home on a stage making everyone laugh. Sadly he passed away on 1st September 2020.

"The funds raised here will be donated to Ian's family to help pay for the funeral and future memorial, with any remaining being shared amongst his favourite charities."

In a heartfelt statement released on her father's Twitter page, Roxanne penned: "It is with our greatest regret that we have to tell you all that Ian has passed away today from severe pneumonia and multiple organ failure.

Alongside his donation of £640, Good Morning Britain's Piers penned: "RIP Roycey and thanks for all the laughs."

Speaking about his friend on air Piers paid tribute to Ian, saying: "We had so many laughs, he was a funny, complex guy in many ways, he had a lot of demons which people who follow him on social media would have known.

"He had a zest for life, he was hilariously funny, and he had a great love for his daughter Roxanne, our thoughts are with her in particular."

The former newspaper editor added: "Fourteen years, always made me laugh, he will be greatly missed by everyone in our business, I will miss him.

"Love to all his family, all his friends. Roycey, thanks for the laughs mate, we will miss you."

Former Loose Women panellist Lisa Maxwell and husband Paul Jessup donated £500 while Britain's Got Talent bosses have donated £1,000 to the page.
